I’m not the electrician; nor is my significant other. However he said this was incredibly easy to install as the wires are already set up; all you do is connect. It is extremely sturdy; well made and an intelligent set up. The cord plug is protected from the elements. Excellent purchase; will definitely buy again for my next home generator set up.

I was very impressed by the quality of the construction on this outlet box. Has a nice spring hinge with latch to close the bottom when a cord isn't attached. Well made, high quality wiring and connector parts.Unfortunately, I had to return it as a different generator was chosen that has a different connector type; after the order for this box was placed.

I have installed 4 of these so far and they have worked well. With the receptacle being down the connection has no way of getting wet in rain. All have been used by my customers with positive compliments.

I got this because I wanted a rock solid generator connection. The most important part is the plug, and I don’t doubt the quality there. I’m disappointed, however, that the knock-outs aren’t real. I could have spent half as much for one of the cheaper ones and avoided drilling a hole for the power wire. I do like the spring loaded bottom mount connection. It has plenty of room for wire, etc. I also wish the plug accepted 6AWG wires. I know it’s 30 amp, not 50, but my house was pre-wired for 50 amp service like a lot of others are, and the plug can only be wired directly with 10AWG, maybe 8. I would have preferred to make direct connections without connecting the 10 AWG wire that came pre-installed to my heavier wires, that’s just another potential point of failure I’d like to avoid.

My husband was easily able to install this box on the outside of our house to hook up our generator if needed. He loves the down facing connection, so it won't put strain on the generator plug and cord. He did purchase a mounting box from a local hardware store that matches our siding to help bring the electrical box away from the house a little bit. This allows him more space to plug and unplug the generator cord without the siding being in the way on the back side.

I am in the process of building a 900 sq. ft. solar powered cabin on 24 acres of wooded land. On days of dark overcast, I like to top off my solar battery plant using my generator. Until now, I used a heavy extension cord but wanted to complete the solar power plant by installing a power inlet box close to the generator.I noted other reviews where the wires on the L14-30 connector were wrong and the spring on the bottom door was weak. In my case, the wires were correct. I removed them so I could wire direct to the connector without wire nuts. However, I do have to agree that the spring is a bit weak. In my case, it doesn't matter because the generator is always plugged into the box.I like that the connector is on the bottom of the box so that rain cannot get into the connector, which would trip the GFCI breaker in my power distribution box inside the cabin if it did. I ran #10/3 Romex from the box to my panel, which will handle the full 30 Amps the box is designed for. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the Connecticut Electric 30 Amp Power Inlet Box.

Bought so I can hook up a portable generator during an extended power outtage. Living in central Florida, we never know during hurricane season if we'll lose power. Already have a sub panel near the pool so figured this would be the perfect addition.Wrote up instructions on connecting the generator and installed in both the sub-panel and main panel. First step is definitely to disconnect the main breaker so to not backfeed the electrical grid. Analyslzed the amperage draw for the circuits I want energized when using the generator so to not overload the circuits.Bought a generator connecting cord for the connection.Hope I just never have to use this.....
