This is at least the 5th or 6th time using these kits. The directions are easy to follow and result in a great brew.

First off, great tasting brown ale! This is an excellent kit for brewing 1-gallon of beer. Gives you everything you need to get started and very detailed instructions.I used to brew in 5-gallon carboys but it took a lot of room to set up and to store the brewing kit, and bottling 5 gallons requires around 60 long necks which can be a lot to collect and to keep on hand waiting for the next batch. So I tried the 1-gallon kit which brews around 12 long necks to reduce required materials, storage space and effort and it worked great. I started by brewing two 1-gallon batches two weeks apart. From then on after I have emptied 12 long neck bottles I buy a 1-gallon refill kit and brew the next batch. It is fun and easy, and provides great brown ale for an excellent price.

I really oscillated back and fourth on buying one of these. Brewing my own beer seems fun but I'm not so interested in doing such as to go all crazy with it. These kits are absolutely awesome. So I had previously been gifted one of the 'mr.beer' kits and I found no enjoyment out of it, seemed like it was for kids, minus the alcohol aspect. What is marvelous about these is the quality of the ingredients, the straightforward directions (which you have to retrieve online and are a one size for all kits pdf, don't sweat it, the directions are perfect) so i made this and the 'Whitehouse' honey wheat. Both came out shockingly well. The beer I was left with i would have raved about had it been served to me in a local brewery. But the hefenweizen is definitely my favorite of the two, by a significant margin. I almost hesitate to leave that remarks as I don't want ppl buying them all up bc I am going to grab several more. All you'll need that the kit doesn't provide is a thermometer to check and monitor your water temp (integral). A 1 gallon glass 'carboy' (13-15 bucks right here on the Zon') and an airlock (I got 2 for like 5 bucks, again right here on the Zon') . GET IT, BREW IT, I used some honey for the bottle conditioning(you'll know what I mean once you read the directions) as opposed to sugar which i used for my first brew (Whitehouse wheat kit). Let's just say a 32oz bottle of my hefeweizen (bought the 6, 32oz bottles on the Zon as well, dirt cheap price, killer bottles) which the kit yielded 4 of, was enough to set me off writing this review. You be the judge.A+++PS!! You'll be wondering how long to ferment and bottle condition, ferment 2 weeks, I bottles conditioned 1 weeks (2 is recommended but I have zero patience) the one week provided ample carbonation and 'head' for me, but most will probably like 2 weeks because yes, it could have used a bit more carbonation. But the dang beer was so delicious it didn't matter.BUY IT!!!

I have the carboy, tubes, thermometer, etc; from a complete Craft a Brew kit I bought a few years ago with an APA recipe. Most other 1 gallon kits I found on Amazon are extracts/concentrates that taste $^&$%^# horrible so when I saw these recipe kits on Amazon I thought I'd give it a shot, it's a much more enjoyable experience home brewing with actual grain and hops than wort concentrate. I followed the instructions that originally came with the kit - the same as what they have on their website, paying special attention to small differences with this specific kit like the multiple times you have to add hops and what not. The finished product was very good, I'm not putting Ballast Point out of business yet but everyone that tried it liked it. Used the .5L Grolsch flip top bottles as always, this easily filled 6 of them with leftover to spare, given that a gallon's 3.75L you could probably fill a 7th but I didn't want to risk sucking up all the sediment in the carboy. The bottle conditioning seems to give it a flavor somewhat different from that of an IPA you'd get at a bar or the store but overall I enjoyed it. I'd definitely recommend giving these at least an extra week or more of aging in the bottle beyond what the instructions say, the ones I left longer and drank last ended up having the best flavor. P.S. - Not that this matters as much but their package design is also solid. P.P.S - sanitize your stuff friends

Update:Previously I had some issues with the yeast. I was wondering if it got to hot in shipping or if it was dead. Almost immediately after my review the seller reached out and is sending me another kit with clearer instructions. I have never had customer service this good! This is the 5th Craft A Brew kit that I have used. They are good entry level kits, the instructions leave some to be desired but not terrible.

First off, the kit didn't come with any instructions, just a QR code for a generic recipe, nor did it come with anything to carb the beer. For a beginner, this would be an issue. They would probably be able to stumble through and make an decent beer, but it wouldn't taste like much like a "Milkshake Stout" as described. As a long-time brewer, I made 2 or 3 adjustments and came out with something nice and tasty. As far as value for the money, the kit provides the majority of the items you need at a decent price, but a little tweaking makes it better!

You can get approximately 12 bottles of beer from that batch which is not a lot for that price. You can just buy more beer in the store for that money but that's not the point. It is a great, complete and easy to use kit that allows you to learn how the beer making work and to play around with different tastes. I had the Octoberfest Ale. It came out fairly dark and bitter, exactly the way I like my beer.

Despite following the instructions we ended up throwing this away as it had clearly gone off. We have years of home brewing experience alongside working in the industry for bankks, now known as marstons for iver 35 years we know the difference between good quality and poor and this is certaintly very poor and over priced.
