Instructions could definitely be a bit better, specifically in regard to getting the hitch in place. It is almost required to either 1) have a way to jack up your car for more clearance (hopefully you have a lift....yeah right...) or 2) get a friend to help you. The hitch is incredibly heavy if you're on your back trying to do this alone. I'm a handy mechanically inclined guy, and this was quite difficult to install. My CX-9 is a 2017:1) First you have to remove the trim piece on the bottom. Super easy.2) BE SURE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO SUPPORT YOUR EXHAUST BEFORE THIS STEP! Secondly, you have to pry and pry to get the exhaust rubber hangers off your exhaust for clearance to install the hitch. This took forever. Go ahead and have a beer first. There are four of them. Use some WD-40 (or other lubricant) and squirt it into the hanger where it meets the exhaust rods/hangers/whatever. Then take some channel lock pliers and use the end of the metal rod from the exhaust as a fulcrum and push the rubber hanger off with the other side of the pliers. Kind of hard to explain, but you are basically squeezing and pushing the rubber piece off, using the metal rod from the exhaust as your fulcrum. SO, congrats...that probably took you 30 minutes by yourself. Beer time.3) Fish the carriage bolts and stops into the frame. This takes a lot of patience, especially on your back with little clearance. Remember to leave the wires dangling out of the holes so you can run them through the hitch. DON'T TOUCH THE WIRES NOW. Leave them be.4) Try like all hell to find something to prop up your hitch to help you lift it. Unless you're a body builder, it's not gonna be easy. Or get a helper...if no helper, I ended up using a paint can to support it in the middle right at the receiver. I then used other stacked boards on the left and right sides to pro it up a little. Feed the wires through the hitch holes now. Those wires that you use to feed the bolts and stops through the frame are kind of tough to pull off. Just yank them off ONE AT A TIME and don't worry about saving them. I tried to just "unscrew" them first, and it wasn't working well. I then pushed up on one side and aligned the rear most bolt into the hitch hole, and got one nut hand tightened. Woo! Have a beer. Moved to the other side and hand tightened the nut to the front most bolt. This thankfully allowed me to remove all the boards and paint cans for more working space and was enough to support the weight of the hitch. The remaining two bolts are easier to get on. You'll still have to push up on it to get the nut threaded on, but it's doable. I also used a long 1x4 as a lever with my paint can as a fulcrum to help me lift the hitch a bit. This helped a lot. Now tighten all the bolts down to Curt's instructions. I think 110 ft. pounds. Bolt tightened? Well done...have a beer.5) Reinstall exhaust system into rubber exhaust hangers. Thankfully they should be lubricated and go in much easier than they come off.6) Find a place to keep your trim piece...it won't be needed any longer.7) Have a whisky, cause by this point you're probably not capable of driving this thing anywhere. You sure the hell aren't going to load up your bikes, or a trailer, or whatever.Overall quality is great on this thing. It's very sturdy and seems to be a great hitch. Just do yourself a favor and have someone help you, or at a minimum jack the rear end up. I spent way too long trying to find a way to get this all installed by myself, with the car parked in my garage.

This hitch is very well-made! It comes with all the necessary hardware and even the wires to fish the bolts into place. Took about one hour to install. Having two people would definitely cut the time probably in half as it’s hard to maneuver the heavy hitch by yourself. It’s nice when a part actually comes with the correct hardware and fits as it should. Highly recommend.

I was very timid about installing this, especially without having the threaded bolt holes in the frame of the CX-9. However, the solution that Curt gave was brilliant and worked so easy. Completing the job as shown on their youtube installation, two amateurs were able to install it in about 30 minutes. Such a relief. Installing the wiring harness took as long as installing the hitch. It seems very heavy duty, and the parts seem durable.

This is a solid piece. Easy to install laying in my driveway. It helps to have 2 Jack's. One to hold the exhaust, and another to hold the hitch in place. Instructions were clear enough. Fishing the bolts through caused a few colorful words, but doesn't laying under your car for any reason do the same thing?Solid and sturdy. Worth the price.

Perfect fit for a CX9. Installation was pretty straight foward but did require the lowering of the exhaust. Everything you need is included, though I do recommend watching the online video on the install as the paper instructions are pretty basic. I managed to install the hitch by myself but did have to use a couple of blocks and a floor jack to help support and distribute the weight of the hitch. So far no issues and fits our bike rack perfectly. I recommend you also pick up the matching wiring harness if you intend to tow a trailer.

I followed the instal instructions that are widely available online. Everything was fairly straightforward, however I’m not sure how anyone did this install without the use of a floor jack to hold everything up. If you don’t have your floor jack, I’d recommend buying one or borrowing one for this project. Tools I used:10mm gear wrench for appearance panelSmall flat head for appearance panelPB Blaster to free isolatorsImpact gun with 3/4 deep well socket to snug down nutsTorque wrench with 3/4 standard stocket and 3†extension to tighten to 110 ft/lbs

The install was pretty easy with just an extra hand. Having all the right tools in advance is a really good idea.

Perfect fit for my 2023 Mazda CX 9The only issue was the photocopied pictures showing installation directions were too dark to to see. I googled the products site and followed the utube video.

I recently purchased this trailer hitch, and I'm thoroughly impressed with its solid construction. The metal is thick and robust, both in the hitch and the bolts, which gives a sense of reliability and durability. It fits my Mazda CX-9 perfectly, with no adjustments needed. The installation was a bit more challenging than shown in the video, but it wasn't a significant issue. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.
