Product Description

Introduction

The fuser in a Brother MFC-L8900CDW printer may need to be replaced for a number of reasons. There is a fuser lifetime copy counter set to show a message on the display recommending replacement once 200,000 pages have been printed through the fuser. It is also common to replace the fuser for lines appearing on the page. Occasionally, the Teflon surface of the heater roller will become scored by the separation pawls that are designed to separate the page from the surface of the roller. If one of these pawls begins to wear into the surface, toner will stick in this area and be deposited back on future pages in that area. Since the upper fuser roller is not available for individual purchase, the entire fuser will need to be replaced to fix the issue. Fortunately, the installation process is fairly straightforward.

Unit was easy enough to install, but performance is way below expected. The fuser lamp puts out way to little heat to properly fuse the toner to the paper. I can change the paper setting to "thick paper" which makes it print much slower and then it will fuse better, not fully, but better. Wish I installed it the day it arrived so I could have returned it, but my dad died and I was crazy busy so only installed it today. Total waste of $200.00Addendum 2/11/2024. Changed rating to 5 because of customer service, the product was still defective but they made it right without any questions by issuing a full refund.

The item fit our printer perfectly but was frustratingly unfunctional. I've replaced fusers in other brother printers half a dozen times with no problems. This should have been a 5-minute cake walk but it turned out to be something of an ordeal. The two rollers are so tight together that it is difficult to get them to turn easily by hand. I compared it to the original part that we were replacing and there was a significant difference in resistance between the two. It would turn but not easily. The OEM part turned much more freely. I suspected this might pose a problem but assumed the old part was just worn out after 5 years of heavy use. So, I installed the new part. It printed a few pages but we were getting really bad ghosting. So, I cleaned the toner cartridges and replaced the waste drum. The next few pages came out still with ghosting then it started making a horrible grinding sound, like two gears were slipping and grinding against each other. Also, the paper stopped coming out. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled the fuser again, thinking I didn't align it properly. That seemed to work as the noise stopped and paper was coming out again, but we were still getting really bad ghosting. After about 5 pages we got paper jammed up in-between the rollers, like an accordion. My staff called me back to mess with it some more. I fussed with the fuser again, clearing the jam, uninstalling and reinstalling it again and it started printing again. 2 more pages passed through, and we got another accordion paper jam. We tried various other things hoping it was a simple overlooking of a tab or misc lever thingamajig that was not rightly positioned. But nothing worked. It would either grind or jam, sometimes both and always ghosting. Exasperated, I uninstalled the new part (I've lost count how many times at this point) and put the OEM back in the printer to see what would happen. Well, it worked beautifully! no grinding, no ghosting and no jamming. This whole debacle started when someone overloaded the paper tray (can someone tell me why they make printers with trays that only holds like 100 pieces of paper and not a whole ream?!) This created a severe paper jam. The process of clearing the jam resulted in accidentally putting a gouge in the soft roller material which is visible on the printed papers. It should have been a quick and easy fix but instead it was hours from my life that I'll never get back. I'm returning the part and decided we can live with the damaged yet fully functional fuser as-is.

There was a bit of a learning curve to install this and it took me about an hour, but it was far cheaper than buying a new printer or sending it out for repair.

I have an MFC-L8900CDW. I installed the fuser and received a "paper jam" error. There is no paper jam. I have uninstalled and reinsalled it multiple times with no success. I have checked the printer for a paper jam at every possible location. I reinstalled the old fuser and the paper jam goes away. I tried to return the product, but the return window had closed - the window is WAY too short. I bought a second fuser, thinking I could get it to work and return the first one on the second order but the second one does not work either and gives me the same error. Clearly the fuser is not compatible with the printer. I've spent easily an hour seaching the seller's amazon page for their customer service/technical support information with no luck: Their product images state that they have "prompt response 24 hours a day 360 days unconditional return and exchange" but that has certainly not been my experience.

Seems to work fine but charge me an extra nickel and throw some instructions into the box! Ridiculous I have to go onto YouTube to figure out how to install.

I was really worried about if my laser printer could be saved. YES!!!!! I am back up and running.

Unit doesn't produce enough heat to properly set the toner. I have tried two different risers and both had the same results. Old fuser reinstalled with no print quality issues, it only creases the paper.
