The unwound strings are made from plain steel and the wound strings are phosphor bronze. Phosphor Bronze was introduced to string making by D'Addario in 1974 and has become synonymous with warm, bright, and well balanced acoustic tone. D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings are precision wound with corrosion resistant phosphor bronze onto a carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core. The result is long lasting, bright sounding tone with excellent intonation.

I needed to contact the company for information. Great personal service and a precise, well made product.

I buy these strings for my tenor banjo. That way i get two sets for the price of one. Doesn't hurt that they sound pretty good too.

I actually got these for a banjo of mine and just use one pair for each string, then have a back-up for later. I recently, though, purchased an Octave Mandolin and put them on there yesterday. In both cases they put out a beautiful sound with both instruments, and while you have to press down a little but harder since they are medium gauge, that doesn't last very long if you practice with frequency. I would definitely recommend these to anyone. Not to mention D'addario is a wonderful company and I have used many of their various types of strings for banjo, mandolin, and now OM.

These are good strings but like most uncoated strings do not last all that long. I wish that D'Addario would make these in a coated version.

My mandocello uses ball end but its not too difficult to mount the balls in the loop end while changing the strings. Recycled the same ball pieces now through four of these string sets.

My new octave mandolin's strings looked a little old, so I decided to try new ones. These are the same strings the instrument came with. What I can say is, I like the sound of the new strings, but also I don't think they improved the sound as much as I anticipated. What I mean to say is, I think next time I'll keep the strings on for a long time and not worry so much about the new strings. I think perhaps old strings sound worse on a guitar than a mandolin. Who knows? I'm new to mandolin.

Consistently good quality strings. There aren’t many companies out there that do Octave Mandolin strings - these are great - bright tone with some depth in the lower ranges.
