The core design makes for strings that are very easy to play under the left hand. Damping is optimized to create a good balance between pizzicato sustain and bow response, allowing for good performance across many playing styles, from symphonic to jazz or bluegrass. The 1/2 scale strings are gauged specifically for 1/2 size bass with a playing length of 38 3/8 inches (975mm).

I have been a bassist for 45 years and have played upright for 25. I've always used Obligato's because I thought they were the best since they were so expensive. I never realized that there are strings for bowing, hybrid and pitz players (I know) so I was pretty amazed by the feel of these strings first of all (medium tension is what I ordered) and they smoothness and playability are very nice. The sound is where they got me. My old '63 Kay has never sounded better and they really brought my Realist pickup and MarkBass combo to life like they haven't sounded in years. Highly recommend!

Sounded fairly tinny to me once I first put these on, but after a few days of stretching them and working some oil from the hands into them, the tone is warming up finally.

I've used these strings for over 5 years. Just found them available on Amazon. Great sound, long lasting. Mainly pizzicato playing, but have bowed as well. My luthier and I researched gut strings and all sorts of nylon combinations. These are by far the easiest to keep in tune with a fantastic tone and growl on the low end. Would recommend to any one.

So, I'm a long time banjo, electric bass and guitar player that picked up a double bass when I retired. My hands are now (at age 60) a little arthritic. Switching my double bass to the lower tension strings and setting it up properly went a long way to making it much easier for my creaky old hands to play.

I spent a great deal of time researching what strings to get for my upright bass because they are not cheap. I finally settled on these and am glad I did. I play a wide range of styles, mostly pizzicato. I was a little reluctant going with straight pizz strings because I've been noodling with bowing on the side, too, but realized that 95% of the time I was going to be plucking and didn't want to go with a hybrid strings just for the occasional bowing attempts. However, I've found that these strings seem to sound fine bowed, as well, but may not be ideal for orchestra settings - I honestly couldn't say. But for bluegrass, jazz, etc. pizzicato playing, they sound really good to me!

I bought these strings to replace a set of the same that I'd on had my electric upright bass for about five years.What can I say, a bass with a new set of Helicores; a dog with two tails. I've had several complements on how good it sounds, and from Amazon, cheaper than from any of the leading online music retailers.
