These strings produce a very full, bright, but not tinny tone and are easy to play. I've used other brands, and have liked these the best so far for bluegrass and Irish folk music.

These strings have a great tone and seem to last a good while. They stay in tune well. Or at least as well as a mandolin can.

I was having problems getting a nice sustained tone on my mandolin using medium/ heavy gauge strings,so my teacher, Mike Marshall, suggested I go to light gauge. I was concerned that I wouldn’t get as dark a sound and wouldn’t be able to play as loud. I am happy to say that now, I can hold down the strings better, getting a more sustained tone, and still can play loudly with almost as dark a tone. Mr. Marshall reviewed my last video lesson and raved about how my tone had improved. I’ve been used to using coated strings also but I like the tone of these better. I’m sure they won’t last as long as coated strings, but the tone and ease of playing seems to be worth changing more often. I’ve played one gig, four rehearsals and two church services and still don’t see a need to change them yet. Also, I had no problem with strings breaking as some have reported. I highly recommend you try a light set of strings. Great for beginners and for a veteran player like myself.

I bought these strings for my Savannah SA-100 mandolin. When I decided to try playing mandolin, I didn't want to put out a lot of money in case I didn't like learning to play it. Well, I did like it. I did some reading and realized that even tho the mandolin was new, the strings may not be, and they age, used or not. After reading reviews and other material, I decided on these strings. Got a winder and some wire cutters, and dived in. I haven't changed strings on a instrument in like 30 years. I took my time, especially with the higher pitched strings, did one pair at a time and in the end they were all intact and in the right place. But that's not the best part. First of all, they didn't take a long time to hold a tune. I was figuring on having to re-tune all the time, but after 2-3 days, only minor tuning adjustments needed. Second, seriously, I almost started crying at the improvement. I was already enjoying learning to play mandolin, but when I put these strings on, I fell in love with learning to play. Not only do they have a rich tone, but they are so much easier on my fingers than the old strings. My daughter is also learning to play, and I suggested she try changing her strings. She has an acoustic/electric mandolin and had been suggested to try different D'Addario strings. She had almost the same reaction after she changed hers. I may be looking for a higher end mandolin soon, but I will request these D'Addario strings be put onto it.
