Product Highlights Extremely small but powerful design can fit almost anywhere Unique suspension allows high excursion for surprisingly powerful response Pre-applied 3M™ VHB™ adhesive for quick, durable installation Rare-earth neodymium motor and a proprietary 13 mm voice coil 4 ohms impedance for use with small, Class D amplifiers Product Manuals / Spec Sheets / Downloads Dayton Audio DAEX-13-4SM Specification Sheet AddThis Sharing Buttons Share to FacebookFacebook Share to TwitterTwitter Share to MoreAddThis 1 Product Description Dayton Audios DAEX-13-4SM exciter will allow you to add audio or haptic (tactile) feedback to even the smallest projects. The 13 mm DAEX-13-4SM exciter is an ideal option when designing pocket sized personal speakers or for adding audio to small art projects and models. At only 0.75" wide by 1.5" long, this exciter is even perfect for use in virtual reality haptic feedback systems such as gloves and headsets. A neodymium magnet is employed to create maximum magnetic flux around the proprietary voice coil for increased sensitivity when compared to similar sized exciters. In turn, this reduces power requirements and makes it possible to use very small audio amplifiers, without sacrificing total output. The unique suspension is capable of high physical excursion to allow this extremely small and lightweight exciter to deliver an impressive amount of force while remaining linear. To ensure maximum acoustic energy transfer between the transducer and the surface to which it is attached, 3M VHB (Very High Bond) adhesive is pre-applied... just peel and stick! Two PCB solder points keep installation and wiring as compact as possible. Note: An exciters frequency response and sensitivity are completely dependent on the exciters designated surface. Thinner, smaller materials will tend to be louder and create a mid/tweeter response. Thicker, larger materials (with multiple exciters) will be slightly quieter but result in a more full-range sound. This is a small device, the first of it's type I have seen at this scale. Just a few watts of audio into it and amplfiy the results. Most users will think of it as a physical feedbacker, it works best in a feedback loop or a send return network with a buffer. Use it to augment a piezo in a guitar. or excite a a guitar transducer, use as an addition to an Aum Guitars Vibraslide or as a modernised version of the original electroacoustic Sustainiac. This would be a fantastic addition to a Koma Field Kit.

This was my first time using a haptic sensor and a Dayton product. The product worked as expected. Soldering was easy to do with the exposed terminals. This small device delivers quite a vibration for such a small form factor. I placed two of these next to arcade buttons of a virtual pinball machine I built. I liked the fact that it included an adhesive so I could stick it to the surface I wanted to make vibrate. I will definitely buy more of these. I also own a larger "puck" transducer from Dayton so I can attest the company manufactures quality components.

Not for continuous use in arcade gaming or pinball machine. Got hot, smoked & melted in less than 3 minutes of light but continuous use with lepy amplifier. Do not use for haptic feedback in a virtual pinball build.
