Micro-grain carbide cross tips and center cutters stay sharper longer for years of dependable service when drilling hard and soft woods, face grain, end grain and figured grain. Carbide cross tips and center cutters also provide smoother, chatter-free and faster cutting results. unlike round shanks, which result in scarring and diminished accuracy. Hex shanks fit 3/8" drill chucks.

Clean sharp edges, no splintering or tearing even in end grain. Runs as true as my more expensive bits. I would buy again if I needed it. Thankfully, this still cuts like new even after boring many, many deep holes in hardwoods.

My primary use of this carbide tipped drill bit is to drill straight into end grain or the wood for pepper mills.Seems to work well and stay sharp. The nice thing is I can sharpen the carbide if I need to with the trend diamond card that I also have.

This is a very precise Forstner bit. I test drilled hard maple with great results. See picture, it cuts very clean and it drills exactly 3.00" (means it is accurate to the thousands of an inch). It takes a strong build drill press with enough horsepower and torque to drive this bit properly at a low speed of less than 500rpm. My press is a Powermatic PM2800b, and runs it very smooth, but I could tell by the motor sound that the bit needs substantial torque (hp). Means, low horsepower drill presses may not be able to drive this size drill.Carbide tipped bits run a lot cooler than HSS bits, therefore they can handle higher speeds without overheating. I'm using other sizes of Roman Carbide Forstner bits for years, and they still cut like on day one without any resharpening.I think Roman Carbide could have sharpened this bit a little bit more, which reduces the needed push down force when drilling very hard wood. But this doesn't change the high quality of this bit, it just reduces the force needed to push it into hardwood, and can easily improved with a few strokes of a mini diamond hone.

Really sharp, perfect circle, better if used on a drill press, bottom really flat / I have an 8 pieces kit but was missing this size / reasonable price

I was not careful enough, and a metal part of the vice holding the wood was right below the 3/4†MDF I was drilling using my drill press. I drilled into the vice, creating a hole. I have no doubt that this has shortened the life of this drill bit, but I have not yet seen any adverse effects - it still cuts clean holes in MDF. The bit is absolutely straight, and there is no wobble.

I looked at all of the other made-up-name bits on Amazon, and not only did this one look different and a better design, I have actually heard of Roman Carbide. So I bought it, even though it cost more. And it performed like a champ. Cut a beautiful flat-bottomed hole in a block of hard maple on the first try. I won't hesitate to buy more sizes as I need them, esp if Freud does not make the size I need.

Very well-made. Cuts through wood and epoxy like it wasn’t there. It’s an excellent value long lasting.

I was using this 36mm forstner bit to drill 3/4†deep holes in walnut. I used my drill press at 620 rpm, drilling down approximately 1/6†then backed the bit out to clear waste and allow the bit to cool. The first 5-holes went well, but on the 6th one of the two carbide points broke. I’m fairly certain I wasn’t putting stress on the bit and consider this to be a flaw in the carbide. I switched to another 36mm bit I have and finished the project.
