Plugged the unit into my lab PSU with the leads taped 5mm apart. No current ever flowed when sweeping from 4 to 12 volts.

I hove bought similar products in the past that work more reliably than this. It only works sometimes and the rest of the time I have to fiddle around with the wires and batteries for it to do anything at all.
