It installs between the stock engine oil filter landing and the oil filter. Stock filter is retained. Designed to be used on engines with a 13/16 inch-16 filter thread. I was hoping this would fit my 2004 Tahoe 5.3L V8. Unfortunately there was not enough room for this adapter and the hoses hooked up to it. I used a Dorman 625-168 OEM adapter instead. Just buy this Dorman adapter, 10 feet of hose and a Derale oil cooler to make this kit work! I use a PL25288 filter with this kit along with a 6 pass Derale oil cooler mounted to my transmission cooler (not much room to put it anywhere else). I also cut out the chevy emblem to allow some airflow to both coolers (the factory setup blocks 90% of the airflow). Order the filter you normally use and measure its gasket diameter, then choose the right size adapter for your cooler setup. Most car engines should work with this 15731 adapter, but always measure twice and order once!
