I was looking for a way to create a spark for a model engine that I am building and thought I would give this item a try. I am really impressed. Using a single AA 1.5v battery this device produced a brilliant spark that I know will be hot enough to ignite the air/fuel mixture. I do believe that this is the device that I was looking for when doing research on ignition systems and how to simplify the process. I guess that only time will tell, but for now it looks promising.

I connected this to a variable power supply and tested it between 3 and 4 volts. At 4 volts, I was already getting sparks indicating a voltage of 8-10kV. I'm concerned that feeding it twelve or even six volts might drive it hard enough to damage its internal capacitors (a common problem with these potted high-voltage supplies).I will say that this one is better constructed than others I've tried, with actual high-voltage insulation on the HV output wire, and a larger case. It did not get noticeably warm during the few minutes I initially tested it.As with other supplies like this, I wish the seller would provide some documentation on safe operating ranges and expected current draw. The item is provided without any documentation at all, and without even any markings on the unit itself -- the high-voltage lead is obvious, and I guessed that the white lead emerging from the same end was the output neutral and the red and white on the opposite end were positive and negative input.I'm reluctant to try this at any higher voltages, because in my experience, sealed units like this fail quickly (probably by blowing the output capacitors) when the output voltage gets too high. I may try it with a very small spark gap to limit the voltage, and see what kind of output CURRENT it produces. If I find anything interesting, I'll post it here.

Potting and overall build quality are excellent. In initial testing with 1S and 2S Li-ion packs, I found consistent and predictable spark generation. 5 stars for performance and quality, would order again.
