This tool is on a level above what you can get at the home-center the big-box home stores just don't offer these. Yes its 3X expensive but you'll never bend it and you'll never need another (unless someone steals yours). The blade is much thicker than the home-center variety and of high quality steel. The blade is so thick it can't be stamped it must be forged (I've seen you interweb videos of the manufacturer actually making these). It sharpens to razor sharp with a single-cut file (which I recommend don't use a double-cut file or you'll take off too much steel and it won't be as sharp). It cuts through tough Texas colichi like a hot knife through butter (I just have to groan when I think of all those years struggling to stab thin home-center shovels through hardened gumbo mud). I used this shovel to effortlessly dig many 24" wide by 24" deep holes in dry sod in a couple of minutes each instead of the 30 mins per hole that it used to take (accompanied by back, neck and shoulder pain). It would be nice if the manufacturer made these in a bigger size but then it might be too heavy. I'm not complaining. I highly recommend this tool and I, myself will be using it (and them they have many tools to choose from) from now on. Wish I had started using them years ago.

After buying pieces of crap over the years I'm finally able to get some long lasting well made tools for the garden. This shovel is awesome.

Nice high quality shovel, but I was misled by the name "long handled". I don't consider this a long handle by any means! For the price, I definitely think is absurdly high for what it is, despite it being a quality shovel that will probably outlast a generation or two.

So this may not be a bulldog spade but the bulldogs for purchase in the US do not feature the T handle. This one does. I absolutely love this thing. It is totally worth the money. Buy it and if you get it home you don’t like it you can always return it but I don’t think you will. I also purchased the larger square shaped hand trowel and it is also fantastic. I am over buying inferior products and now that I have found Dewitt forged tools that’s it for me

My son-in-law was using this shovel today when it broke where the handle meets the metal. Hoping to get it replaced since is states it has a lifetime warranty. We shall see!UPDATE: I contacted customer service and a new shovel was sent out to me immediately! Couldn't be happier with the shovel and the customer service. I needed a good shovel for planting fruit trees and thought I'd finally get a good one. This DeWit made a noticeable difference in both speed and ease of digging. I was digging in wet compacted clay soil and it cut right through with no problem. I'm old enough to appreciate how a good tool saves time and energy allowing me to work on other things that need to be done. This shovel is very well made as is the handle. I really pushed it hard and there was no problem whatsoever. This shovel is designed especially for digging holes. It excels in that task.
