This is a great ferro rod holder for my 6 inch x by 1/2 inch rod…you can put a lanyard thru the top and what’s also a plus is you can put a good amount of fire starter material in the top and screw it down tight…excellent product for the price…buy one…you won’t be disappointed

I've used these wooden keel handles years ago while working as a Shipwright (Marine Carpenter). So I know they work great for lumber marking chalks or crayons. I purchased this particular one to see how well it would hold my 6" X 1/2" Bayite Ferro Rod. It does a great job of doing just that. The first photo shows the 6" Bayite Ferro Rod in the Dixon handle. Notice that only 1.5" remains out. A 5" rod would leave but 1/2".The second photo shows the 6" Bayite Ferro Rod extended all the way out. It gives you 5.5" of extended ferro rod to strike upon. That gives the handle 1/2" to grip the rod when the aluminum nut is tightened. It appears to work great. However, I'll field test the handle this hiking season here in Montana to learn it's durability and functionality as a handle for a ferro rod.

Watched a lot of Alone series, decided to buy hubby a long fire flint that did not have a handle, this did the job and more, also looks great.

I much prefer this wooden holder compared to a plastic one. It works great and feels good in hand.

Works OK, prevents crayon breakage. I bought mine for about 9 dollars, the current price for this holder is about 35 dollars and ridiculously over priced considering better holders can be purchased at half the price.
