Easy to color with paint markers. I was unable to cover over the laser etching of the design however unless I used black paint. Since it's so hard to cover over the design my recommendation is to base coat the whole thing with white first to seal the wood so when you add the colors they are less likely to be picked up and carried by the wood grain. You don't really need to care when that happens with the base coat. You may also want to give the base coat a light sanding as the wood grain does get raised up. I wish the wood had of gotten a quick spray coating of white before being laser cut. This would have made it a lot more end user friendly. Overall It's a nice Easter craft though if you have paint or paint markers handy.
