You certainly aren’t going to have a lot of practical use for this. The range is so short you practically have to touch it to the metal to detect it.It serves its purpose for what I bought it for, finding small nails, screws, nuts and bolts when I drop them on my garage floor, they get camouflaged into the speckle pattern in my concrete floor sealer. Rather than trying to look and feel all over the floor I can just easily wave this around. Also came in handy when my riding mower drive belt broke in the back of my property and I had to repair it in the grass back there. One of the little clips went flying and otherwise would have been lost forever in the grass, this saved me the hour of my time and $20 in diesel it would have taken me to run into town and get another retainer clip. A lot cheaper, a lot easier to use and takes up a lot less space than an actual full size metal detector, and for my needs worked just as well and better than dragging a magnet around, especially for aluminum or stainless steel that the magnet won’t find.

Came WITH a charged 9v battery installed, so I tested it out of box and unlike others I've used it will turn off and on with clear indication each time. It makes different sounds depending on how close to target.2" for a penny. A far more expensive detector does that at 3", but so what. That one cost $120more and was practically impossible to shut off. Not saying any names but it was a dark red one. This one has a light.Comes with a springy cord that gets pretty long, so it will only be practical if I hand it around my neck, but you also get a belt holster in the box. Pretty cool.

I bought this to find buried dog fence wire (20 ga.), and it does not work. It does work for larger wire. Seller needs to include a minimum size threshold, to work.

Seems to work well. I haven't actually used it on the thing I bought it for and I intend to use it on, which is pallets basically and making sure there's no metal in them before I put them through my planer, but I have ran it over various things in my shed and it did exactly what it said it would!
