This item is well made and of good quality. The blades are sharp which makes it easier to step on and puncture the soil.

We recently purchased a fixer-upper where the previous owner didn't place much importance on lawn care or maintenance. It would be more convenient to hire a landscaping crew to handle the makeover, but I have a couple of kids. We don't have an immediate timetable to complete the project, but it is an excellent character-building DIY exercise and the kids could split the money I would've paid to professionals. This core aeration tool is simply designed and easy to assemble. We were up and running in no time. Honestly, removing the plastic wrap was the toughest part. Although sufficiently built, I wish it was heavier at the working end to make working with compacted clay easier for people who are lightweight. The tool worked very well initially, but we quickly learned our new clay soil wasn't uniformly consistent. In the drier patches of "lawn", the tool performed amazingly. The plugs easily formed and released. On the soggy, uneven patches, the tool clogged frequently, but the terrible soil quality was mainly to blame. Unfortunately, the included weeding tool is too wide to clear the shafts of the corers. The plug catcher is necessary in case you have a dog roaming free on your grass. No false alarms. That's absolutely a poo you stepped on.Even though a powered or rotary version will make quicker work, this small aerator takes little space in the tool shed in comparison. It works effectively if you have a small area to maintain, or have youthful exuberance. It won't perform any miracles overnight. In our particular case, our soil could use drastic improvement. Regular usage should have some effect on soil consistency and lawn health.

This product works great for smaller areas. I would want to do only part of the yard with it. It is great for smaller areas.

I am a beginning gardener, I own a home that is on 2 acres of property and had no lawn or professional landscaping for quite some time. I started last year building out my garden on a side lot and planting grass across the 1 acre front yard.To start I rented a professional aerator. This tool is great but it is NOT meant for large areas unless you have lots of time and work ethic. Even after using a professional aerator, specialty seed blend, watering and waiting several weeks for growth, I have bare spots in my yard. This is normal especially if live on a slope and it rains washing away the seed in areas or if you have areas of too much or too little sun. I use this tool in those areas.I also planted a raised bed garden on my side lot. It’s hard to use a large aerator on a steep slope so I elected to not do that since the area is small. I used this tool to aerate my garden path inside my garden as I wanted to have a grass path with stepping stones. To start, the tool comes well packaged and disassembled. Mine came with an extra weeding / divet tool - this tool is good for removing unwanted weeds or rocks from your path. It’s well made and sturdy. Didn’t bend on large rocks. To assemble the aerator - you will want a normal or larger sized Philips head screwdriver and a wrench. The assembly is very easy if you’ve assembled things before but if not, there are clear instructions. It is only 4 screws. The bottom has two large screws with locktite already applied. The handle has two smaller screws that have locknuts. You will want to use the wrench to hold the lock nuts in place while you screw in the screws with your Phillips head screwdriver. You can do it yourself or have someone help. After it’s assembled, this is a good quality / heavy aerator. I typically spray the inside of the aerators themselves with some grease spray (you can even use Pam but I recommend something made for metal) as it helps the dirt slide out easily after each aeration you do. Reapply as needed. To aerate, wait until the ground is moist (day after rain or after sprinkling) and simply place the tool in the area you want to aerate, hold the handles and push down with your feet. Much like a pogo stick if you have to! Pull the tool back up and give it a tap to slide out the dirt. Repeat over area you need. I also recommend you bring the other tool for removing rocks and debris that may be in your way.Overall this is a great tool, it’s well made and easy to assemble. It has nice grips on handles and strong bottom piece that doesn’t bend. It works great and for the price, I highly recommend!

It is a nice product for its price. Although it is not as efficient and easy to use like the ones with engines. It is better in making those holes on the ground for aeration.

Couldn't get the shaft tight due to the screw system. Attaching the collection tray blocked two of the core holes.
