worked just as i hoped - broke up the compacted spoil from new construction. The grass roots and rain water are now able to penetrate the ground and start building proper soil.

Did a good job, but try when ground is wet! They pick up dirt between teeth.

I don't think these really go deep enough to provide adequate aeration. I used them when the soil was soft a day after rain, so as to dig easier, and they gum up with dirt/grass/leaf cakes after about 20ft of stomping. I can feel that they get in pretty good at first, and it's not a bad little exercise, but I'm constantly stopping to scrape dirt cakes out like I'm fighting dog poo. Not a bad addition to wear while you're walking behind the mower while mowing the lawn, but not a good replacement for real aeration. Also if you have any issues with flexibility, you don't want to be putting them on sitting on a step because then you have to walk on concrete to get to the yard, so you have to put them on sitting down in the grass in the first place. I don't have a problem putting them on, but I can see how some people might. My first thought is these might have martial arts applications for self defense if you can throw a good kick, but should not be bought for this purpose because they really handicap your movement, and if you get your foot stuck in the dirt even in practical yard work scenarios, like dodging a dog that wants to play, they might make you twist your knee in a bad way.

Great for areation of lawns. Lightly moisten the soil. If too wet, you'll find yourself doing s balancing act as you try to lift your feet up.

We had a grub issue so wanted treatment to "get into the soil" as well as thatch the dead grass! Worked great, just need to get used to walking in them, can throw off your balance.

It was difficult to work out how to strap these on at first use. Be sure to keep the manufacturer's photograph with you when fitting them on so that you can see which strap goes where. Once they are on, they work really well. They are well made and are better models than those that I have seen in Garden Centres. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 due to their being a bit tricky to strap on.

Well made was surprised by strength and how fast i was able to airate my 109ft lawn was impressed by the speed I could get it done in much better than a garden fork and quicker

Easy to use, just strap them over your shoes and off you go. Make sure straps are tight. Your neighbours may wonder what the hell you're doing but that's part of the fun no? Easy to clean, fairly sturdy as long as you've tightened them up well.
