What can I say? I'm beyond impressed with this robot. I have been in the "pool world" for decades. My family had a pool, my wife and I worked in the pool business for a while and we have a lovely 8 year old Doughboy pool ... but never in all those years did we ever use a "robot", I didn't know what I was missing!PROS:* The Price. I have been shopping for various units and the prices for "larger pool" robots were over $1,000, and at the price we paid ($849 - 5% Amazon Store Card Credit), it is a STEAL.* It Freekin' Works. Look, I love my pool, and don't really mind vacuuming it, but as the season progresses and more leaves and dirt get in the pool, it really became a drag to do it. I can say without hesitation, that I will probably never have to vac the pool again! When we opened the pool, the water was clear but there was some "gunk" and algae on the bottom. We put this in (Using the pleated filters) and within no time it was CLEAN* It Cleans The Walls, Water Line and "Corners". The one job I truly hate in the heat of the summer, is catching / scrubbing those pesky occasional "algae spots" that sneak up on the walls. This unit cleans the floor, the coping, the edges and climbs the walls to clean all the way up to the water line. SO far, no algae spots are in the pool.* EASY To Clean and Maintain. Just pull out the unit, open it up, empty the "basket" and wash off the filter panels with a hose. Takes a few minutes!* The Dog Loves It. Our Dachshund loves to sit by the pool and watch it work ... and so do I :-)CONS:* Wish There Was More Run Time Options. I knew going in that this unit does not have the bluetooth features the higher models have, but I would like the ability to run the unit more than once a day OR run a little longer. This is the only "con" I have so far!* Manual Was a Bit "Lacking". There were some questions I had about the product that were not answered in the manual since parts of it were "universal" to all of their units (including do not remove the foam circles on the cleaning roller ... this unit didn't have those ... and it took me 5 minutes to have realized there was an asterisk in the manual saying "not all units have these". Minor thing.Bottom line? If you are looking for a robot cleaner, do yourself a favor and snag this DX4 (or any in this line) and I guarantee that you will LOVE not sweeping your pool during the season!

Works really well at picking up all the debris on the pool floor and scrubs the walls. Even picks up sand! My only complaint is that the control panel is not waterproof and doesn’t come with a box to place it in so it can’t be kept outside. What’s the point of being able to set a daily or weekly schedule if I have to keep brining in the control panel every time it might rain?

After spending a lot of money on different vacuums that did not work as stated, I decided to enlist the recommendations of friends. After taking a poll, the Dolphin Proteus DX3 was the clear choice. So, I decided to purchase it and the vacuum arrived the next day. I took it out of the box, read the super helpful directions and I was cleaning the pool in no time. I was impressed with the amount of water that the Vacuum itself moved, as well as the amount of debris it sucked up! The vacuum even climbed the sides of my above ground pool! The fact that it plugs in, means there is no waiting for the battery to recharge after each use. It is always ready to go! I use it once a week and the pool has never been so clean! It has been the best money I have ever spent towards pool maintenance! I am very pleased with how easy the vacuum is to clean out, as well. The entire basket lifts out so the contents can easily be disposed of and the entire unit can be hosed off quickly and efficiently. please note, It is important to keep the vacuum level as you take it out of the pool so the contents of the basket do not dump back into the pool. A minor detail, but one I wasn't aware of until after some trial and error!Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. My only regret is not buying this vacuum, at the beginning of summer!

I purchased the Proteus DX4 robotic vacuum for one week ago. I have probably ran it ten times. Today I observed the performance for the entire 2 hours. The pool is 30’ X 18’ and kidney shaped. The circumference of the pool is 85’. I ran the DX4 for the default 2 hours. The pools pump is a variable speed and was running at about 1/3 maximum speed. I started the cleaning at the remote end of the pool in the shallow area. I have started the DX4 in different areas and get similar results. The DX4 climbed the wall 15 times in 6 areas which covered 25 feet or 30% of the pool circumference for water edge scrubbing. This seems disappointing, especially only scrubbing in six areas, 30% of the pool. The DX4 spent over 1/6th of the time around the main drain cover. It would back up and continue running over the drain cover. The main drain is shut off and not used in this pool. The main drain cover meets the new standards to prevent personal injury when the suction is turned on. The DX4 seems to prefer using the center of the length of the pool and only branching right or left in the six areas identified for water edge cleaning. Numerous times while climbing from the deep end (about 6’ deep) it would seemingly stall and abort the climb to the shallow end. I also observed it frequently moving forward and backward repeatedly only covering about a foot in either direction.Attached is a picture showing the six areas where water edge scrubbing was observed. The areas where there are no black buckets indicates there were no attempts for water edge cleaning or cleaning the pool floor. From my perspective the coverage for my pool was poor. I purchased the DX4 for the Water Edge Scrubbing and the Swivel in the power cord. Neither feature met my expectations. I expected the DX4 to cover the entire pool in the 2 hour cycle. I contacted Maytronics about my concerns last week, and the rep suggested I clean the impeller. The pool is screened and was manually cleaned before using the DX4, so I was confident there were no obstructions and the DX4 was clean after disassembling and inspection. I have also completely unplugged the unit, thinking the unit might reset, but the coverage characteristics are similar on the next run. Maytronics is willing to run diagnostics since the DX4 is within warranty period, only one week old, but I have to pay for shipping which seems ridicules.I contacted Maytronics support and their recommendations were (1) turn off the pool pump during the 2 hour cleaning period (2) The also felt the issue with continuous cleaning of the main drain was also tied to the pool pump (note the drain has a plug in it) (3) Be prepared to manually clean areas of the pool (4) DX4 will not clean steps because the water is too shallow (it has cleaned this area on a subsequent test run)I also ex[plained that I also tested a Maytronics Active Solo, which did not exhibit any of these issues and that it did an excellent job of cleaning the pool.I am a retired engineer. I have no experience in robotics.
