After getting intermittent codes for small EVAP leaks and noticing that fuel was backing up in the filler neck while filling up and tripping the pump every three seconds, I did some troubleshooting and found this vent solenoid valve was stuck closed in '05 Focus. I installed this Dorman valve and noticed an immediate difference at pump.

Fairly straightforward installation (2010, spare tire support is rotted off), cleared the code weeks ago, still good.

I am having early gas pump shutoff issues with the 2007 Focus I just purchased and this part was suggested as a possible culprit in online forums. Since the car is 17 years old it seemed likely. This is a direct replacement for the OEM part and took more time to get the car up in the air so I could get under it than it took to change out the part, which is located just in front of the rear axle, to the right of the car's center line. The OEM part was original and rusty, but in my case it didn't solve the problem. Still, it wasn't expensive and having a new one installed is one less thing in trying to figure out the problem and I've got the old one as a spare if I ever need it.

Had check engine lamp come on while driving, later checked for OBD codes which came up as PO46 evap leak. checked for power at solenoid and was okay. Replaced solenoid, cleared codes, recheck no codes pending. Has been 2 months and all is well.
