the shifter was getting harder and harder to move, and if I had not fixed it, it would have broken off.we removed the inside console, disconnected the cable from both ends, note: on the pt cruiser that we have, there are 3 bolts from the top and one fropm the bottom! one minor change I did, the heat shielding on the cable is only in one spot. I removed the silver foil tape, pushed the mastic up and down the entire exposed area and re-wrapped it with the foil tape so the ENTIRE section that is exposed to heat is protected. the pass through into the interior is a bit fussy, but fairly easy to redo. Hooked it all up and reassembled it, worked perfectly. It took 2 of us 3 hours to do this job. we only found one video on youtube that addressed this. so this is why I am putting so much detail so it helps some one down the road.

I bought this cable for a 2006 pt cruiser. It sure looks like it will fit. Snaping it into the bracket on the transmission is really hard. I ended up taking the cable back out and using a vise and vise grips to get the cable to clip into the bracket. Fit right onto the shifter, but really hard to clip into the shifter. The shifter level goes right on. The cable is too short between the bracket on the transmission on the shift lever on the transmission. No matter how I adjusted it would only shift as far as reverse. the shifter would indicate park on the floor, but the dash would indicate reverse and the reverse lights were on. It finally broke. I spent the extra $20 and bought the mopar part. It went right in and shifts like butter.
