The first one I bought must have been a fluke, because after I followed the instructions, It was locked up and wouldn't turn in any direction, (even before installing). I returned it and ordered another. This one was flawless. Since I already was familiar with the instructions, it took me about a minute to program it to my key. Checked my 2nd key, and it also went through all the positions easily as well. The original Ignition Lock Cylinder on my 2002 PT Cruiser, had gotten sloppy to where I could remove the key in any position, and I lived with it for a few years because of the cost to have my original key work in a new lock. You can now purchase a Ignition Lock Cylinder kit with a new tumbler set where you take the original apart, note the tumbler number of each position, and build the new lock using new tumblers according to the map you laid out with dismantling the old one. That sounded time consuming and scary. This design is amazing. In just a few minutes, the new lock is programmed to your original key. I'm sure that removing the old and installing the new in the car or truck varies slightly with each vehicle type, so you need to check for instructions on your vehicle.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002. This worked wonderfully. I did notice that there were two different directions, one on the product itself via a sticker and one on the paper instructions. One said to go 180 degrees and back and one to go 360 and back. I went with the 360 and back (sticker instructions) and it worked perfectly. Took all of about 5 minutes to get the job completely done.

The Dorman Mechanical Key Relearn Ignition Lock Cylinder made fixing my ignition way easier than I expected. Re-coding the new lock was a breeze with the automatic turn coder—no complicated steps, just turn it back and forth, and it works! Swapping the ignition cylinder was just as simple, too. All I had to do was undo one screw, pop out the old one, and slide in the new one. This saved me a ton of money since I didn’t need to get new keys or mess with programming anything for immobilizers. Super happy with how easy and affordable this fix was, I highly recommend it!

The new lock cylinder came with 2 missing wafers and 2 missing springs. I called customer service and explained how the new cylinder was only loaded with 6 of 8 wafers and springs and that two was missing from my package. He told me that it was only supposed to come with 6 not 8 and the two other slots were not supposed to be used. I explained that the original cylinder has 8 and all the videos of this product shows it is supposed to have 8 and the even the new key is cut to use 8. I explained that I need the 2 missing springs in order to key it to my original key that has a chip in it in order to have the same security as the original cylinder. He told me it only needs one wafer to work and I'm just complaining. I should just use only the six. I told him that I wanted the full 8 so it minimized the chances of other keys turning my vehicle into the on position. He then said I should just get a man to do it for me because I'm incapable of understanding the mechanics. My boyfriend who was helping me with this project listened to the entire conversation. He immediately called and talked to Dorman and without any issues they said that yes the cylinder is supposed to come with 8 wafers and 8 springs preloaded in the new cylinder matched to the new key and that they cannot send out just the missing springs that we need to key it to the original key and said we should send it back for a replacement in order to get one with all 8 wafers and springs from the place where we bought it.Dorman customer service is only interested in helping you if you are a man. I assume that they think women cannot work on cars.Update: I received my second ignition cylinder and unfortunately it also came with missing parts. I now will have to build an ignition cylinder using the new cylinder and old parts from my broken cylinder. Was not expecting to pay as much as I did and still have to use 20 year old parts inside the new part to make it work.

This worked as advertised, I was able to change the little brass wafers easily enough after watching some videos. However, as it came there were only 6 of the brass wafers and springs installed in the lock, instead of 8. Plenty of wafers were included in little bags, I had to re-use 2 springs from my old lock. The kit did not come with extra springs. All in all everything worked out and I am happy. I do recommend this product. When disassembling your existing lock cylinder (to discover the coding), be careful not to damage any springs, you may need to re-use them. The packaging did not appear to be opened or damaged. No instructions were included, I watched a few videos for that. The purpose for buying this kit was to keep my original keys.

Wow super easy and was done in less than 5 minutes. I actually thought I had done something wrong because it was done so fast. I installed on a 1999 wrangler because the key would come out even when it was running. This fixed that issue. Thank you!

Even though I have some pretty mad diy skills and a full range of tools, I tend to be intimidated when it comes to automotive stuff. I'm a 54 year old woman, and I'm grateful for all the reviews that said this was an easy DIY repair. It really did take me about ten minutes to replace the lock cylinder in my 2002 jeep liberty, with absolutely no issues or frustrations at all - for real, super easy. I would only advise that you find out if you need a special screwdriver bit to remove the cover on the steering wheel column of your particular vehicle. I found out from a YouTube vid that I would need a torque bit (size T20 if memory serves), which I just happened to luck out and find in an old multibit set I have. It would have been a pain in the keister if I didn't have that information ahead of time, as the screws are set so deeply into channels in the column cover that it's impossible to see the heads to determine the proper bit size. Since Murphy is my middle name, if I didn't have that information, I probably would have used the wrong bit and most likely stripped the head of the screws. that's the sort of typical snafu I tend to run into when attempting diy repairs I have no experience with...like anything automotive ;). I saved around $200 CDN by doing this myself, so I would recommend this part to anyone in a heartbeat. It was even kinda fun to do, definitely satisfyingly successful!

Some variation between the instructions and what the label on the rekeying cylinder says. However, I followed those on the cylinder and all good.
