Bought this for my girlfriend's 98 Ford Windstar. The original was failing, in that you couldn't just turn the key all the way to engage the starter - - you had to turn it pall the way, then back it off just a hair until it hit a "sweet spot" that was narrower than the head of a pin. Then it would start. (For some strange reason, she found this difficult. I had no trouble, more or less mastering the technique after practicing it 2 or 3 dozen times, but I am admittedly a mechanical genius. Humble, too!)Anyway, I bought this part to fix the fix the problem so she could actually start her own car. The part was a fraction of the cost of purchasing it from a Ford dealer, and installation was a breeze. I just kept removing bolts under the steering wheel until I could see the ignition switch after a few hours. (Like I said, a mechanical genius!) Then a few more hours of replacing bolts, and Bob's your Uncle - - the repair was done! And the best part is this new part actually works. She can start her own car now, which makes us both happy, and I finally got recognized for being the automotive jedai master I truly am.

What I liked about it was that it was reasonably straight forward and easy to install.It absolutely solved my ignition problem with starting my truck. Works and starts like new!

The battery in my 2001 F-150 was draining to zero while my truck sat for 48 hours or more. These electrical problems are common in these old F-150s and are very difficult to diagnose. I tracked the problem down to the radio which remained on after the ignition was turned off. After replacing relays without curing the problem, I watched a YouTube vid that suggested the ignition switch might be the culprit. I figgered that this $12.31 investment was cheaper than hiring a mechanic to do the diagnosis. This Dorman ignition switch was easy to replace and it solved my problem. I trust the Dorman name - Dorman has good quality, reasonably priced replacement parts, several of which I've used successfully on my old Ford F1fitty.

After installation I started the key but unable to turn the engine. I had to wiggle the key back and forth several times before the starter caught on. After a short 4 miles drive I turned off engine and started again. This time it started without having to wiggle. I guess the heat likely facilitated the contacts of the poles inside the switch to work more reliably. This same pattern repeated for the next three days before the switch completely gave up and I had to start the engine by the way of the two solenoid terminals.I returned this unit and ordered a second one. I noticed the second unit was smoother than the first one when I manually moved the rod back and forth. I sprayed some WD40 into the moving parts of the switch before installing it.The second switch worked perfectly as it should. It started the engine on every single turn. There was no need to wiggle it to find the sweet spot where the electrical contact would fully mate for adequate current flow.I now raise the rating to five stars.

Last exactly 6 MONTHS from purchase date.Not kidding, went to drive the truck 8/16 and wouldn't star, purchased on 3/16. Battery was tested good so pulled switch and there is no resistance in the sliding arm mechanism. I drive the truck once a week so that is starting the truck 2x a week for 6 months. That's 50 some odd times in 6 months and already kaput?? Dorman or Amazon want to replace?Normally, get Dorman items instead of OEM or junk brand.

My car had an intermittent starting problem. This was one of the many parts I replaced to cure the problem. I replaced every part except for the wiring harness and it still has the problem. I installed a starter push button in the dash to go around the problem. So, am I sorry that I installed the Dorman ignition switch? Not at all - this new switch takes about one half the force to turn - just like when the car was new!

Well, it works, but very stiff. Kinda 'crunchy' when i turn the key. This is the 2nd time i bought this dorman brand off amazon. I have now ordered a ford original item.Dorman seems to have slipped in QA/QCI recommend you MAKE CERTAIN you really want this brand because l just discovered that its not returnable for any reason
