  • Must Have Tool for Repair Spark Plug Threads: Used to fix severely cross damaged spark plug hole thread, cleaned up the threads without leaving scraps in the bore, no need pull cylinder head, no need coil insert
  • No Shavings Drop Into Engine: Used grease on the threaded, so that it will trap any metal shavings within it and pull out with the device rather than drop into the cylinder chamber, not worry about stuff going down into the engine
  • Material: Made of high quality 42CrMo steel, its material is equivalent to 4140 steel, with high strength and toughness, good hardenability, no obvious tempering brittleness, high fatigue limit and multiple impact resistance after quenching and tempering, and good low-temperature impact toughness. Therefore, it is more durable hard to damage, is a nice heavy and precise tool
  • Short and Long SIzes: It contains 2pcs spark plug thread repair tools, detail size is: M14x1.25(5.27" length); M14x1.25(10.3" length), will be suitable for more models of vehicles
  • Tips: Put it straight through the hole, expand it, back thread it 3-5x. Then reverse it in reverse, especially when it started getting tougher to turn, turning from side to side from time to time, at the same time, during the whole process, Just be sure to go slow. When u hit a hard patch, back it up a little then go forward again. After repeated operations, it is easy to remove the remaining material

Product Description

14mm Back Tap Spark Plug Thread Repair Tool
M14x1.25 Thread Chase Tap

Steps on how to use

1. Clean the tool surface and apply grease

  • When using, first wipe the threading tap, then apply a little grease (or use anti seize agent) on the threading device.

2. Turn the tool patiently and carefully

  • Put it straight through the hole, expand it, don't put at widest setting on first try.Slowly work your way wider and wider with each tap. After slowly widening it out over 4 taps, Then reverse it in reverse, especially when it started getting tougher to turn, turning from side to side from time to time, at the same time, during the whole process, the force should be moderate, not too high or too low, and maintain good patience and caution. In this way, after multiple turns, the debris will enter the hole of the tool and then be pulled out.

3. Clean up metal shavings

  • After the residual substance is pulled out by the tool, turn the nut at the handle to make the drill bit of the tool retract, open the crack at the thread, and clean it. Then turn the nut in reverse to restore the tool head to its original state. Then continue to apply a little grease to the thread.

4. Repeat operations

  • Continue to insert the hole for rotation, so that the remaining residue again into the crack, allowed to cut the threads from the inside out and not worry about stuff going down into the engine. After several patient operations, the spark plug thread can be successfully repaired.

When I opened this box, I was stunned by the manufacturing quality of this tools set. I have only had one occasion to use it since I purchased it (and repaired the damaged thread of a very expensive brake caliper). Really worth the money.

The tool works okay, the knurled grip makes it more difficult to work with then if it had a something that could be gripped with a wrench or something like that. One of the tools that was sent in the pack was missing that piece.

I used this to restore the threads on a 1989 Volvo 240 wagon. The previous owner had cross threaded the spark plug into cylinder #3 about 1/2 way and left it there. I couldn't use a traditional thread chaser while the head was on the car. I was able to insert this fully into the cylinder and then expand the tool out to fit the undamaged threads at the bottom of the hole. I then turned the tool out to roll the threads back into place. Took three cycles to fully be able to expand the tool to full diameter. The spark plug threaded easily into the hole when complete and was a good fit. Did NOT overcut threads etc. EXTREMELY satisfied with the outcome. Saved me a day to R&R the head. Would recommend to anyone struggling in a similar situation.

This tool saved my rear end by reconditioning the threads on a spark plug hole in an aluminum head. It’s a much better design than the traditional chase that pushes the debris into the engine.
