Using with a Caldone CV axle boots on a 2010 Subaru Forester. I greased it up, held the body back with an adjustable wrench, and ran it on in with a ratchet and socket. The threads were a little dinged but straightened out quite easy. I used a set of Knipex ear clamp pincers for initial setting of the Oetiker clamps (to hold in place) and brought the clamp into final tightness with this tool. Works fine.

Yes, these Oetiker and Click/R clamps are showing up in more and more places other than auto CV joint boots (appliances, HVAC, etc.).Yes, you could try to use diagonal cutters, nail nippers etc. for the clamping force and risk damaging the clamp and then damaging your car, or appliance, or HVAC. oryou can get this tool and set the clamp correctly and not have to worry about any failures. There are no instructions provided, but the clamping procedure is obvious. Some reviewers question how to use this tool to remove the existing clamp.Simply turn this clamp 90 degrees and cut into one thickness of the existing clamp from the side just above the pinch point. It comes in a nice form fitted box with two sets of crimpers.Always add a drop of oil to the tool threads before applying force from a wrench or socket.

People who work on cars know the value of these tools. Last time I did an Acura MDX CV boot clamp and used the GearWrench traditional CV boot clamp tool as shown in the picture. The GearWrench worked as well as it can be for that design. However, there are three major issues. First, it worked because I removed the axle and had all the room I need. It won't work if I had to do it with axle in place. Second, clamping was not easy at all. I first hand cranked the GearWrench tool, and then put two 1/2 breaker bar into the square holes in the handle. It was not easy, believe me. Finally, I don't know when to stop and it is hard to control the shape of the finished ear. In the end, I closed it enough to meet the factor service manual and everything worked. But it was not easy. And the shape of the finished ear was not really symmetric. All of these troubles could have been saved by the Toyota factory tool. However, that tool was more than $200! That is the reason why I grabbed this tool as quickly as possible. This could be a game changer next time. The tool itself is perfect, as can be seen from other comments. However, I really wish that the manufacturer can spend a little bit of money to add some instruction booklet with the tool. I had to go online to figure out that the other blocks are for BMW and I still am confused how to use it to "REMOVE" clamps. If anyone reads my comment in the future, please let me know how to remove clamps using this. Do I just flip the two blocks and use the flat sides to round the ear? Thanks!

This boot clamp kit is easy to use. Kind of awkward for me a quite a bit of change. Used to use the pliers but sometimes didn't always get as tight as I wanted them. Not I don't have to worry but takes a bit to get used to. Replace my tie rod end boots and worked just fine!

It is what it says it is. Not sure what to say about it. It works.Disclaimer: Although I received this product free of charge, I still have to pay taxes on it, as it is viewed as income via a 1099. Everyone can therefore rest assured that this review is my honest experience with this item.

When there's not enough space for pinching pliers to lock the band clamps on an axle or CV boot, you need one of these. Instead of the end of the pliers, these crimp from the side of the tool. Specialized, yes, but it works. 5 stars.

This clamp tool is compact compared to using pliers and allows a good tight crimp. I really like my Germain made pliers which are easier to use, but are difficult to get that last one or so millimeter crimped. This item gives you the ability to use a power tool making crimping easier, but a little more complicated while keeping everything aligned properly. The workmanship is okay, but with tooling marks it's not great. However this is a tool not a beauty contestant so functionally, it's fine. The case is heavy duty a does a great job keeping everything together. The case did arrive beat up from the warehouse like something very heavy was dropped on it, as the packaging was perfect. No damage to the tool and the case still functions so no issues. This is really just a small gripe, not a complaint and I'm very happy with this product. The only real complaint I have is I wish I had gotten this years ago, and saved some time fighting with getting those larger clamps fully secured.

The operation is rough. The bolt doesn’t thread smoothly and the jaws get hung up easily when you advance the bolt. When you retract the bolt, the jaws don’t retract, so getting everything in place is going to take some practice.
