Product Description

Black Beauties bass guitar strings with K3 Technology. The K3 coating is the first coating that players report, "sound as good or better than uncoated strings." DR's remarkable and proprietary K3 Technology coating is the first coating that makes no apologies and no excuses for not delivering sound equal to uncoated strings. Players tell us that these strings have more volume, less unwanted overtones, greater clarity and articulation than standard, uncoated strings. Yet, they provide the same protection due to corrosion and perspiration as well as increased tone life that coated strings are known for.

From the Manufacturer

BLACK BEAUTIES™ Black Colored Bass Strings aren’t just about the sleek and sophisticated look. They feature a round core wire and a stainless-steel wrap wire to maintain brightness and feel. All strings in the set are coated with a jet-black version of DR’s K3™ ultra-hard coating, delivering longevity, more projection, fewer unwanted overtones, and outstanding clarity and articulation.

This is my second set of DR Black Beauties in light gauge because I love the feel and tone and dig the way they look on my basses. First set went on a Peavey Unity LTD PJ neck through bass and they look great on the trans black finish. They feel solid while still being easy enough for articulation and speak well on this bass. The second set went on a fretless P style bass and they growl and sing to perfection.

I don't know how else I can say it. How did I go for 25 years of playing bass and never try these strings? These are GAME changing. They're bright, feel amazing in the hands, they don't rust over time, and they hold their brightness a LOT longer than uncoated strings. A handful of months later and these bad boys still sound like the day I put them on the bass. I play finger style and have noticed the E and A losing a bit of the coating where I pluck, but it hasn't made any noticeable difference in sound or feel. The coating hasn't flaked, it merely appears "worn down" a bit because of use. I am a convert from Ernie Ball Super Slinkies, which I always found to be my favorite. Plus these look AMAZING on my white and black bass.

I don't like flats. I play a lot of fretless but still prefer roundwonds. Depending on the bass, and what sound I want, I either use LaBella nylon wrapped, for blues, or a set of these for rock. I have heard people complain about the coating falling off, but that has not been my experience. As a sidenote, I got an ad for another online stores that Just sells Only Strings, if you catch my meaning, and they were running a sale on DR strings. But they charge shipping and the cost of the shipping put the cost of the strings back to their regular price. So I looked on Amazon and found them for almost as low a price as the "sale" price was, but being a Prime member, there was no charge for the shipping. Amazon is my new source for bass strings due to low price and fast delivery. These strings also look cool on some of the basses I have "murdered" - changing all the chrome bits (bridge, Straploks, machine heads, string tree) to black.

DR Black Beauties have gotten lots of good reviews. I was customizing a Stu Hamm Urge and wanted black strings. I considered tape wounds, but the Black Beauties came in medium scale, so I thought I would try them. They are nice, smooth, strings with a black coating that seems pretty tough. I was careful running through the Hipshot KickAss bridge and didn't seem to rub any off. The length was perfect. I tuned up, set the intonation which went well, and proceeded to give them a try. They are very comfortable to play. They look fantastic. Very black. Nice tones with nothing too far to the left or the right. A good playable range. Very happy with them what for me was a novelty string. These are the real deal.

These bass strings will make your bass pop out at your next gig. The coating is perfect, amazing string quality. They play very well and sound amazing. I would recommend these to any bass player. Good price for the value of the strings.

Can’t go wrong with BBs. They sound great, last forever and even look pretty cool too.

ottime, montate da oltre un mese, hanno già tenuto qualche concerto e dopo un primo assestamento, tengono bene la brillantezza tipica delle corde nuove, senza essere troppo squillanti. Costano un po' di più mane vale davvero la pena.

Best bass strings I have ever used. They're loud, and have a good combination of brightness and 'beefy'-ness that works perfect for my tone

This is my second set of DR strings and I have to say I am impressed! I have 36 years of buying all sorts of bass string brands and these might just be my favourite strings ever. They look great, feel great, play great and sound great! $50 for a set of 5 string isn't unreasonable though I have bought cheaper strings that do the job but I just played a 3 hour set with the band and didn't have to worry about sweaty or sore fingers so I'd say the coating works. I've read reviews about the coating being inconsistent but I've yet to have that issue. I will let you know if it happens as this will not be my last set. I'm sold on DR strings! I might actually consider setting up a subscription with the seller on Amazon for regular supply.
