I wanted to find forgiving flat wound strings for a back up bass with a higher action. I had half rounds on that bass. I like half rounds on a lower action. But, they felt stiff on the higher action bass. I put DR Legend FL45 45-105 on the bass and they are major improvement. Supple feel, even balanced tone. Much easier to play for my finger style. Some comments state these DR flats are like half rounds. They are not. The wrap band is wider and smoother than half rounds. Some older comments state the E string arrive “dead†and defective. I suspect that may be caused by not crimping (bending) the string before cutting excess length. The inside of the DR box states in bold letters, in 4 different spots “Prevent Dead Strings…..round core…crimp…before cuttingâ€. Crimping before cutting is always a good preventative, even with hex core strings.I have La Bella Low Tensions on another bass. I like them. But wanted to try something different. These are similar but not quite as smooth to the touch. Not in a bad way for me. Initial playing feels great. I’m happy I tried this American made string.

Best bass strings I have found, hands down. When I play bass, I want to FEEL the bass, like, deep inside me. These do exactly that. So smooth, and the tone is just perfect. Tons of low end thump without being dull or muddy. And they are cheaper than most other flatwounds I have used in the past by about $10. These are my new go-to strings. Give 'em a shot. I doubt you will be disappointed.

I love DR strings. These were my first flatwounds which I purchased for my P Bass... Excellant quality as always with DR's!

DR makes a fabulous set short scale flats. It's got smooth warm punch I love when playing the electric bass.

I've gotten hooked on flatwound strings, for the comfortable feel and no 'raking' sound when you move your hand on the fretboard. I strictly play La Bella flats on my P-Bass. But they just don't sound right on a Jazz Bass.I guess what I really want on the Jazz Bass is a set of strings that *sound* like rounds, but *feel* like flats. I think that may be what DR is going for here. They really don't feel flat — they're more like half-rounds — but they are pretty comfortable to play, don't make a *lot* of the raking noise (although they do a little), and they sound excellent on the Jazz Bass.I got them because I was first trying out a set of D'Addario Half Rounds, which felt decent but sounded *terrible*, especially the completely dead E string. No sustain whatsoever. These DR's, on the other hand, sound extremely consistent string-to-string, with great ringing tone and lots of sustain.I think I may have just found my go-to strings for Jazz Bass.

These are my go-to strings for flats. I have a soft spot for TI Jazz Flats, but they're expensive and, for the Rock/Blues/Soul stuff I play most, well, they just don't sound $50 better than these DR flats. These are bit heavier tension than the TIs (what isn't?), but nothing like LaBellas. They're a nice mix of being easy to play, but providing enough resistance for when you really wanna dig in. I've got them on my P-Bass and I get that nice round sound, with just the right mix of thump and punch. I had them on my Jazz for a bit, and they were okay, but I ended up going back to rounds for that--these flats just seemed to dampen some of the characteristics, the more pronounced growl, especially, that make a Jazz bass sound different than a P-Bass. I think these strings really shine if you're pushing the mids, but maybe less so if you tend toward a more scooped, smiley-face EQ set up, but I tend to think that's just the case with flats in general--your preferences might differ. Oh, last thing, and I think this, too, applies to flats in general: if you like heavy overdrive or distortion or fuzz, but you've got either a cheap pedal or a half-assed on-amp drive setting, well, put on your hip-waders 'cause it's gonna get seriously muddy.

I bought these not knowing what to expect. I put them on a jazz bass of mine and it was a great match. My only complaint is how tough the strings are to play. They're playable, but they feel very stiff and hard to bend. I might just switch to LaBellas for that bass, but they're not bad for a cheaper alternative flatwound string.

Not all they are hyped up to be, the pack I received had two G strings but no D, I followed the fitting instructions on the box precisely but they sound dead, even on the bridge pick-up. Sustain is poor compared to round wound strings, If you like a muted flat Bass sound then these will suit you. Don’t bother wasting your money.
