I've been using these for standard tuning on my 5 string basses for many years. They're well made and set up very quickly and easaly. The .130 on the low B string makes the sound nice and tight on basses with a 34" scale. I've been happy with every DR set I've bought and these are my go to 5 string standard tuning on a 34" scale instrument.

I've been using this particular set for over ten years. I love not only the sound of DR strings buy also the feel which is very even from string to string. I also use the four string Nickel Lo Riders for fretless bass. I'm sure I could find very specific string sets and gauges for every application but these always have done the job for me.

I use these on my 4 & 5 String Fender Precision Basses. The nickel coating is easier on my fingers and they keep their life for a very long time. Tone-wise, they don't get in the way of the instrument and they're not as rigid as steel strings. I have been using DR Low Rider Nickels since 2007. A viable alternative are the DR Nickel Sunbeams which have brighter mids but keep that Fender P-Bass punch.

I spoke to alot of bassists before buying this. A lot of great reviews. Up until this purchase no one I spoke to used Exilir nanowebs. I regretted buying the DRs. They are too harsh on my fingers. Next purchase will be back with the nanowebs. I cant even say that I got a significantly different tone from the DR that justified the harhness on my fingers. I would confess that I do not play bass regularly so my finger tips have not hardened so I guess the DRs will be no problem at all for the 'hardened' bassist.

I wasn't sure if the Low Riders would be too stiff/heavy, but after having spent some time with them, I am very pleased! The feel is a little heavier than the High Beams I was using, but just what I was looking for. For being a nickel string, they have a nice zing, but a nice over-all voice.This is my second set of DR's - long life, and a really nice feel. I would/will buy these again.
