About this item

  • Perfect strings for Rockabilly, Bluegrass, Psychobilly, Country/Western, and more!
  • Fits most 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, and 4/4 scale basses.
  • 6 string options included in every pack. .170, .155, .130, .105, .095, .080 (sizes in inches)
  • 100% "synthetic gut" - nylon/kevlar construction to simulate the tone and feel of natural gut strings.
  • Please read the full item description below for even more information about this product.

Simulated “gut” texture on full length of strings. The strings have a light to medium-soft texture that has been "spiral cut" into the string. This slight texture facilitates better gripping of the strings for lightning fast pizzicato playing, and drag triplets with with almost no effort. The strings "grab" the air and force it to move, producing more mid and low end tone when playing acoustically. All of our nylon string sets come as a 6 string “bump” assortment (6 total strings of various gauge. See photos.) for 1/2, 3/4, and 4/4 size double bass. The idea is that some players prefer thinner, lower tension strings while others prefer thicker, higher tension stings. Why not offer a wide array of thickness and tension all in one package of strings? This is exactly what we do! Our string sets also include rubber dipped metal ends. NO KNOTS to come untied in the middle of your set! We are proud to be the only company offering this configuration. You need strings that sound great when played acoustic or amplified, strings that won't tear your fingers up if you need to play 3 sets in one night, strings that stay in tune in hot/cold/humid/dry climates. You need Superior Bassworks Kevlar cored nylon strings for double bass. Perfect for Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Bluegrass, Country/Western,and much much more! The string sizes included in each pack are: .170, .155, .130, .105, .095, .080 (sizes in inches). If your bass has never had non-steel strings installed, please keep in mind that some modification of the tailpiece string slots, bridge string notches, nut string notches, and tuning machine string holes may be required. This is completely normal, and will not prevent you from switching to other string types in the future. Please measure your bass before ordering. If you are not confident making these adjustments yourself, please consult a professional luthier or more experienced bass player for assistance. These strings are not recommended for school orchestra students.

I cannot manipulate metal core strings over the course of a rehearsal any longer, so I tried these and found them surprisingly responsive with a pleasant gut tone. I had to expand the E-string hole on the tailpiece as expected. Note: It took two weeks for the strings to settle in enough to keep a tuning for a reasonable length of time and they stretched enough that I had to reset the angle of the bridge - twice. I'll expect that next set and set a greater downward angle of the bridge at the start - plus not be afraid to trim a bit more at the peg box end to avoid some of the work.

I put on the 4 middle gauge ones like they recommended. Only had to make the tail piece slot for the .155 E a little bit wider. The bigger fat .170 will need the winding peg hole widened a bit if I use it in the future. I’m glad they give you a choice in the set with the 6 string set. Also love they’re made in USA. Would buy these again.

Superb sound and tension on the g .80 and the d .105... I was really unhappy with rotosound rs4000's g string it had a wine and twang to it that was unacceptable at least on my cheap plywood bass... maybe the rosewood fingerboard wasn't perfectly true on my bass... the extra pull on the bridge via tension really activates the top of the bass making the e a d & g all louder... I have kept the rs4000 e and a for now but maybe when the g & d finish stretching I might try the "a" maybe even the "e"... I'm extremely happy even if I end up using only two of the strings. Rotosound should be taking notes these beat their g and d any day... the texture makes it easy to grab when drag triplet playing... the texture feels a little ruff to my left hand which is good... feels like dry gut... great strings.... very happy

Just started playing upright again. I needed new strings to replace some steel strings that came on the bass when I bought it. I have a 1954 Kay. I use a K&K Rockabilly pickup system. The amps very from an Ampeg, to plugging directly into a PA system. I read all the reviews for different string companies and decided to try these because of the good reviews and the price. I am very happy with them so far. I do need to replace the thick "E" string with a thinner gauge. And I need to replace the "D" string to a thinner gauge. And it's easy to do because of the extra strings that come with this set. Overall, they are easy to slap with. They sound pretty good when amplified. It was well worth the money to get me started back into playing. My fingers are holding up pretty well too! Other band mates have complimented on how much they like the sound of the bass. Thanks!

I tried to replace my 10yo gut strings on my Chinese made Stentor instrument with these strings which had good reviews and recommendations. However over several hours I had great difficulty fitting them to my particular bass. I tried the middle 4 and had to enlarge the slots in the tailpiece. The space around the winders was very cramped causing more difficulty to get a good fit. Then 1st and 4th strings were rubbing against the side of the cavity. This was hard to avoid and due to their rough surface there was excessive friction against the wood causing excessive strain on the winders. Once fitted they felt too slack with the A string striking the adjacent D string giving me two notes at once. So I attempted to fit the thickest 4 strings which was even more difficult and then when bringing the G string up to pitch I wasn't watching and the bridge collapsed due in part to the rough surface of the strings causing too much friction against the bridge. (I'd put graphite in the slots). By then I'd had enough and since I have two gigs this week I decided tp play safe and put the old strings back on. I'm not a luthier but someone with reasonable basic skills but obviously not enough. I don't doubt that these are very good strings nor do I hold the manufacturers responsible. I know another very well regarded bass player who likes them, however I guess they're just not for me. Pity because my partner loved the orange colour.
