I expected far less than I got. This is a quality trap that has been effective in catching smaller fish, blue crab and smaller conch. I am sure it will work well in fresh water as well for crawfish and smaller fish. When I say smaller, I don't mean minnows. I caught a ten inch fish this week. The trap is an effective and efficient size when open and it collapses into a flat disc about 12 inches in diameter so it is super easy to transport without taking up much room. I highly recommend this trap. Very good value for the dollar.

My spouse and I purchased this 2 pack for our kids to use while staying on the Intercoastal waterway on the NC coast. The traps worked great, and took a fair amount of abuse, as my kids 6 and 9, aren't the most gentle with things. We didn't use the included bait bag, but instead just tossed in the bait (we used chicken gizzards, and frozen mullet) tied the top shut, attached the traps to the cleat on the dock with the supplied rope, and tossed them in. Crabs showed up in the trap within 15 minuets. We also left the traps soaking overnight most nights during the week we visited. So far I haven't noticed any corrosion from the salt water, or any fraying of the netting material the trap is made of. Once we got home I did give them a good rinse down with fresh water, but they are still in great condition, and I'm sure they will accompany us on the next several trips to the beach. In the traps, we caught Blue Crabs, small hermit crabs, and a Stone Crab. We also would get the occasional Pinfish in the traps when we left them soaking overnight.Removing the crabs from the traps was the only slightly challenging part, as they had a tendency to hang on to the netting, but we found that opening the top of the trap, turning it upside down and lightly dropping it on the dock would shake them loose. As we were only doing catch and release, the crabs would make it to the end of the dock and fall back into the water if left alone. We did get a cheap pair of tongs to handle the crabs with, and they worked ok, although the previous method of "dumping them out" was much faster, and we'd just picked up the leftover bait with the tongs and put it back into the trap.I highly recommend these traps, especially if you have inquisitive kids.

we caught about 3 decent size crabs in a few hours but it was impossible to get them out of the trap because crabs try to hang onto the netting and legs just breaks off.. then i saw in a similar item at walmart website with a photo of how one side can be pulled apart to make a room to shake them out. duh.. it works the same on this one. wished it was in this item instruction. hope this helps someone else who is trying it for the first time like me.

I bought 4 for a recent camping trip and spent a week catching crabs. They work great at catching but removing the crabs are another story but for the price i have no complaints.

My kids and I have a blast with this. I haven’t had any problems with its functionality. Love that it can fold up and open to retrieve whatever we catch. However, when I received this product it didn’t come with the bait bag, but it had two cords. I was very confused and thought oh well, but as I use it more and more I really wish I had received the bait bag.

We tried these out for the first time today, they were nearly filled with crayfish!I did a quick skim over the instructions to understand how to hang the bait using the bag, and then went to town using a empty water bottle as a floater so we couls hook the twine roap they come with.Trying to figure out how to get the crayfish out of the trap took us a little longer to figure out than it should have... lolThen i noticed the second half loop on one end, and a little silver clip!Such a slick of a design, I'm a big fan of these.I'm buying another set! For the crayfishWe purged them all day long using the lake water in my live well, something i learned a few months back, you want them to breath and allow the dirt and crud to come out vs Trying to shock them. After a day out letting them cleanse in the livewell, we steamed them to perfection after a 10min crash course via the internet.I'm a fan finally!

I had fairly low expectations of this trap to be honest but since it was inexpensive I decided to give it a try. I've been pleasantly surprised at how well it performs and how well it is constructed. It's not nearly as cheap and flimsy as I expected it to be; it's actually quite well made. The fact that it collapses on itself for storage and transport is a nice touch. You can fit it in a backpack, kayak storage compartment, wherever. And it does indeed catch things. I've caught fish and crabs with it so far. Overall pleased and may just buy another one.
