I bought this for a project that involved attaching 1/4" thick leather strip to a softwood. I used the Awl to punch both the leather and the wood to allow some decorative tacks to seat about half to 3/4 of the way, and used a rubber mallet to drive them the rest.None of my tacks broke when using the awl to properly prepare the materials. I've used it for a few other projects other than it's initial purpose. For the price it's very handy to have around.I was concerned about the durability, specifically if the handle would separate. I've put a decent amount of pressure downwards on this widening holes in wood and it's yet to slip, crack, or show any signs of failure.

Very convenient to have a sharp point strong enough to start a hold in wood, fabric, etc.

It’s an awl! I can’t say anything great about the construction, but it works well.

Even though the little metal piece fell off.. it really was only for aesthetics and the quality of this awl is phenomenal. Very sturdy and works perfectly for my book-binding needs.

I grew up watching my carpenter grandfather using basic tools and the bradawl was essential for starting wood screws in exactly the right place. To use a bradawl for that purpose is still more accurate and faster than strting with an electric drill. I recommend this well-made tool which looks and feels really good and its sharp point ensures accuracy.
