Not so great on knock down plaster that's old as the hills. If you're using it for finish work or fresh dried mud, it's great. I recommend

This works great on open areas. Just have to watch the motor speed and angle of head on the wall. If you’re not careful, it will cut a dent or sand into the paper. Start speed on slow setting and work your way up.

As other reviews stated it is heavy but how you hold it helps some. I've always used porter cable drywall sander but the last one I bought didn't last a year and they are more expensive than this one. This sander doesn't leave the swirl marks like the others can either.

I’ve only used it on one room so far. It is easy to use and sands really well. It has a large Velcro-attached sanding pad and covers a lot of area fast. I really like the variable speed. However, I only used the integrated vacuum and dust bag. I have not used an external vacuum yet. While I can not be exact, even with the vacuum set to maximum (a small air port reducing vacuum) I would say more than 90% of the dust remained in the sanding head and fell to floor when the sander was lifted from the surface. The dust skirt did a good job of keeping dust out of the air keeping it in the sander head. The set comes with gaskets, hoses, connectors, safety glasses… but terrible instructions. How and where to put all the included gaskets, o-rings, which hose to connect to where… The rest is pretty much easy to figure out without instructions.Your money is better spent on an economy sander with a vacuum port. This is way too expensive for a circular sander with a long handle… which by the way has no options… all three pieces must be used, you can not leave out a section for a shorter handle.

Cuts sanding and clean up time to a fraction of what it was without this

An excellent tool that will speed up any of your drywall work. I definitely recommend adding a vacuum to the mix as the bag is helpful but it really needs a vacuum to work right. The vacuum also allows it to kind of stick to the wall a bit making your job even easier. It will quickly knock down your tape joints and get you ready for primer and paint or wall covering. If you are good with tools you'll easily learn this one and greatly expand your capabilities. I use this for multiple projects aside from drywall joints. It's very good at knocking down anything left behind after you do a popcorn removal and getting the ceiling flat for paint.Along with ceilings this will also help get plastered walls flat after a skim coat or new application, just let it float on the wall, taking out the highest spots first, and you'll see exactly what is left and where you might need a little more mud or just to get the highs to meet the lows, creating a flat wall. Using a long level or straight edge will result help you here!A great addition to the DIY or professionals tool kit!
