The DTECH Industrial RS232 to RS-422/485 Serial Converter is a bi-directional adapter that lets you adapt an RS232 data signal to either RS485 (2 or 4-wire) or RS422 and vice-versa, with support for baud rates up to 115.2 Kbps. The adapter supports auto baud rate detection as well as RS-422 and RS485 mode detection, and supports connection distances of up to 4000ft (1200m).
It is suitable for most applications, including industrial, commercial and any general office computer device.

Unlike another one I bought that claimed to do both 2-wire RS-485 AND 4-wire RS-422, this one actually does both standards very well. Connects every time and works like a champ. Highly recommend.

I have this adapter attached to a FTDI based USB to RS232 adapter and using it in full-duplex RS442 configuration for couple months now to communicate with/control an embedded system using MODBus protocol at 115.2 k baud wired with about 12 feet of CAT5e cable.

Purchased to use with OBS Studio to control our 2 FoMaKo PTZ cameras in our church. We have been using it as a RS485 serial adapter for a few months now and have had no problems. It is a low cost solution: you can use your PC to control the camera rather than purchase a dedicated controller for 10x-20x the price. My only concern is that it sticks out pretty far when attached to the computer. Looking at adding a short serial cable to put between the PC and the adapter.

Works just as-advertised. Was concerned the self-powered feature might not work as hoped since my RS-232 connection only has 3 wires (transmit, receive, and ground) but it worked perfectly (tested at 38.4k baud). Took it apart and it seemed to be well-built (no extraneous wires and clean solder joints).

I use as simple 232 to 485 converter connected to RS485 hardware. Works flawlessly. I would like to point out that they do not include the fasteners from the breakout board to the converter. Does fit pretty snug. That being said I still like it.

A simple converter such as this one should basically last forever, but at least a decade. Especially one billed as "pro grade." So I am very disappointed that it failed after less than four years in service.

Tested it at 19.2 Kbps and works great. No need for an external power supply as it is powered by the RS 232 port.
