Im a service tech, and was going to use these if I had to connect to a device and my cable had the wrong end on it. I have used it for that. But what saved me was I connected a device to a transmitter, but the cable had the wrong end on it. I remembered I had these, and gave it to the customer to the job was able to be completed. Customer was very happy, and made the install quick, clean and most importantly, working!

A little confusing at first to have a set of gender changes which includes one adapter which doesn't change the gender until you realize that with these 3 adapters you can also connect any 2 cables together regardless of gender. I was very disappointed that I could not remove the screws from the male to female gender changer (it is female on both sides) without the metal caps falling off. That makes it useless as a gender changer. It's only good for joining two cables because the screws on the adapter will butt up against the screws on the device I am trying to plug into, preventing it from plugging in. I actually had this issue trying to connect a USB to serial cable directly to a motor drive the other day. I'll have to see if I can find this one separately without this flaw.

Before trying to use the one adapter I bought this pack for it was obvious it wasn’t going to work because the two retaining screws (one on either side of the actual serial port) are the same gender as both the serial port on my device, and also the serial cable I need to use.I don’t know if I got a returned item that someone took apart and failed to reassemble, or if these are just garbage (I’ll say that the package didn’t appear to have been opened before) but before I could try the adapter anyway it just fell apart.Unfortunately for me I didn’t see the other reviews where other people had this exact same experience.

I had to remove the outer screws in order for the adapter to mate the two connectors this adapter was purchased for. Unfortunately those screws are literally the only things holding this together, there is no moulding/glue/anything else keeping this from disintegrating into a mess of pins and plastic.

The 5 pin sides switch to 4 pins. If you're just looking to switch all pins directly across to their opposite gender you'll wonder why nothing works and then realize the 5 pin and 4 pin sides are mixed up and nothing works.

I needed the female-female most of all and it's nuts block complete insertion in both male terminals I needed to connect. You can't remove said nuts because they hold the adapter together.

Although the other two looked reasonable, the first one I removed from the pack came apart in pieces, none of the pieces were joined to each other. I have returned the three without trying the other two, although a cursory examination showed them to be in better shape.
