I have 5 cats. I've tried numerous litter mats. Paid $100 for a large plastic dog pad holder with a smooth grate over it. It was very smooth on top so I still had TONS of litter all over my downstairs. I would sweep and get two cups of litter from my living room and kitchen. Horrible.So I tried this ribbed mat. Let me tell you, the key is to have a mat with an uneven surface so litter is knocked off the cats feet. The "ribs" on this mat are large and about 1/2" apart, so the kitty walks on it and half her paw is on a rib, while half a paw is on the "crevice". It worked wonderfully! I didn't even sweep my downstairs today, because there was so little on the floor. Literally maybe 20 total grains on the entire downstairs!As to quality, this is a FOAM mat, not vinyl. It comes folded and is stiff. You should be very carefully, unfolding it as it seems like it could easily be torn in half like paper. The foam is not meant for walking on. I am guessing that if you walked on it a lot, you would flatten the ribs and also possibly scrape off the black color....if the black color is not through and through. It is not a "substantial" piece, but it does its job and the kitties are walking on it. I layed mine so the kitties are walking on the ribs horizontally in the direction they leave the room. If you make them try to walk on the ribs like walking between corn rows, then I'm not sure they would like it.All in all, it's a fair price (with shipping being built in to all Amazon items) for what you get. I am very happy with it. In my picture, you'll see I have one of those "honeycomb and envelope" type of mats that I placed in front of the ribbed mat. You'll see that it has dried urine in it. You never just get dried urine, you get urine mixed with a carbohydrate scoopable litter which hardens like a rock and can be impossible to clean, especially out of those little honeycombs. If urine gets in the ribs, I will lay a wet paper towel on it to soften it and wipe it up. That should work very well.Get these! Notice that I placed two together and overlapped them. Oh, when you first get it, just carefully fold the mat in the opposite direction that it was folded in for delivery and it will lie flat. I didn't try very hard so mine is sticking up a little, but I don't care.

Love how this actually traps the litter! 5 stars for that. It is soft feeling and zero odors from the mat itself which is a definite plus for me there. The bad news is the XL is exactly the size they describe however it’s more like a small size in my opinion. When you have a large litter box for older cats this is just not nearly big enough. The pee will leak over it because the edge isn’t that deep if your cat misses litter box or has over spray. I will say it doesn’t leak through the mat to the floor if it’s a tiny leak of pee. If more than a tiny bit of pee then it is on your floor. What I really don’t care for is that no matter how long you weigh it down before use it still won’t lay flat so I took away 2 stars for that. This is annoying because it ends up flinging all the trapped litter onto floor once the cat steps on it again. Video description is also misleading because it doesn’t dump out as easily as they show. Half of it ends up on the floor. There is also zero and I mean zero instructions, company name, or logo on this mat. It is helping to not have to sweep up as much litter as before. I would probably order the XXL if I knew mat would lay flat. I would say size up if you have a large litter box or extra messy kitty.

I have now had this mat for roughly a little over a year. With regards to catching litter and liquids it's great. My issue is with how porous the material is, unfortunately the smell of accidents seeps in and after a year of accidents there is no getting it out of the mat. The mat itself is very expensive to have to replace yearly. Just wanted to mention it in case smells is a big thing for others like it is for me.
