After struggling for years with a knife and spill half the egg out I decided to search for a cracker designed for soft eggs. The one I bought worked beautifully at my first trial. The cut was easy to make and the soft egg remained intact with no spillage. The set comes complete with 4 egg stands, 4 spoons, and the cracker at a price that is very reasonable. I highly recommend the set if you like soft boiled eggs for breakfast.

There are three styles of soft-boiled egg openers. There is the European style scissors that resembles a stork with an "egg tooth" that works pretty well but occasionally breaks the egg in embarrassing ways. There is a gadget that looks like a life preserver ring with "shark's teeth" that come out on the inside of the ring. Only antiques of this model that were built really well work properly. The teeth in new ones tend to just slide off the egg. Finally, there is the spring-loaded "cracker" or slider model that I purchased as a gift today. You put the egg in the cup, place the spring-loaded or falling-ball cap on the egg, pull up the spring-loaded ball or raise the gravity ball, and let the spring or the gravity ball go. The cap has a tiny but sharp inward facing cutter edge that cracks the eggshell perfectly every time, and enables you to simply lift off the cap with a section of the egg inside, leaving the egg opened in a perfect circle, ready to spoon out. It takes a bit of faith to do the first egg, but after you get it to work once, you can do it every time.

Although usable for US Large sized eggs, barely, the egg cups and the cracker are designed for the largest-sized hens eggs on the US market. As a result, "Large" eggs are loose in the cup and sit lower than normal for an egg cup. The cups are spun and polished aluminum, very light, and stack together somewhat for convenient storage. The cracker is powerful -- too powerful unless you learn to pull the ball out only part of its travel. Workmanship is about average. Value for money is certainly there, but for a better experience, buy some standard sized egg cups from another source.

This didn't come with any instructions at all so you need to watch the video in Amazon to realize the cutter is NOT a cutter but more like a little hammer. Lifting up on the ball while holding the lower part against the shell and snapping it back cracks and breaks the eggshell exactly as they show. I usually do 2-3 snaps and it's fine. The cups are very light weight and have held up to ~8 months use so far. One word of caution: The cups are very thin and easy to cut yourself during handwashing - I learned the hard way to watch out for this.

As with most things there is a slight knack in this , but easiest with large or medium eggs from the older Bird. Small eggs from Young hens have thin shells that break too easily.

This is the golden product right here,i have been making dipping eggs for years for my kids and doing it all wrong cutting the tops off. this is a breeze to use its cuts the tops of the egg PERFECTELY i was amazed and if using the right way you can tilt the egg topper to the side and it pulls just the shell off the egg ever so nicely.. its super easy to clean GREAT value for your money and the tiny spoons are perfect for digging out the inside of the egg
