I purchased two 13†ceiling medallions for double mini chandeliers over my dining room table. I took photos for you to see. They really add elegance to the chandeliers. I get a lot of compliments on them. The thickness is similar to a bleach jug (heavy plastic). Some reviewers complained that it does not rest flat on the ceiling—not so for me. It rests perfectly flat with no issues. The inside opening diameter of the ceiling medallions (3.5â€) was smaller than the metal ceiling mount that holds up my chandelier, so I had to cut notches into each ceiling medallion. I tried a utility knife, but it was easiest to use regular scissors to make several narrow cuts in a row, and then pliers to twist off each tiny tab. The medallion is not flimsy, but it’s still very light weight—so I did not need to use any adhesive to attach it to the ceiling. It is held up by only the light’s canopy. While I was wiring the light, I used a bit of electrical tape on the inside edges to temporarily hold up the ceiling medallion so it would be out of my way. The electrical tape does not show underneath the light canopy.Also, some guidelines I read said that the medallion should be either smaller or larger than your chandelier. Since I was hanging two chandeliers and also have some other decorative molding on my ceiling, I chose medallions that are EXACTLY the same width as my chandeliers and they look very proportional—so those size guidelines are very generalized and you may need to adjust them for your own situation.I initially purchased different medallions, which were too plain for me. This one is a nice compromise between not too plain, but not too ornate.I do recommend it. I see some people have written this plate is too thin. Mine isn't. It's not flimsy. It's nice visually as well. Perfect for around my bedroom light.

I bought a plain unfinished one bc that's the color I need. It's pretty and looks like the picture, yet this material is cheaper and thinner then I thought it'd be.In comparison, I found another similarly designed plastic ceiling medallion at a thrift store for a steal at $3, and even though its original price was $7, it was a better quality pvc plastic than this one. It's a very convincing imitation of a high quality, artisan made medallion. I love it and it's what made me look for another.This one looks barely a step above what I'd find at a dollar store, yet it was $12. Disappointed with the quality, but I can't quite say it wasn't as advertised. It'll still look good on my ceiling for what I need it for so no need to send it back.Don't expect yours to look anything close to the $$$ ones made from fiber glass moulds.

As many of the reviews have mentioned, this is made of plastic (as per the description). The backing is hollow, which you can see in the second product image, though I was actually surprised at how strong it was given some of the other reviews. I don't see it bending or drooping at any point—it's honestly just too light for that to happen. Ours arrived in perfect condition and sat flat against our ceiling without issue. We've already ordered another one that also arrived in perfect condition.We installed it in our dining room and it looks wonderful up close and from a distance. Here's what we did to make it look convincing:1. Paint it!! This product is intended for paint, so if you skip this step it will look like plastic (because it is). Paint it to match your ceiling or your trim, or anything else you'd like, but do not skip this. (We did three coats of a matte white).2. If you need to cut a larger hole in the middle ring to accommodate your electrical box, use the right tool. We have a pair of construction shears (not sure what you'd call them), which can cut through thin sheets of metal. They cut through this easily without cracking it or breaking it.3. Glue it to the ceiling, don't nail it. We didn't want it to be permanent, so we actually used a thin strip of caulk along the flat inner part of the medallion. Caulk is sticky enough to hold it in place, but easy to remove. The medallion is very light, so this combined with your light's canopy will be more than enough to keep it from moving.4. CAULK THE EDGE. If you don't do this, it will look like a plastic add-on. And if your medallion doesn't lay flat/or your ceiling isn't level, caulk will solve it.

Looks great! I didn’t even end up cocking or painting it, and it looks perfect. When I removed an old light fixture in my laundry room I realized I had a hole much larger then a standard light box so this was the perfect solution and adds some cute character and charm into the space.
