Elitech LD-100 Heated Diode Refrigerant Leak Detector offers the greatest sensitivity and fastest response of any portable refrigerant detector available.
This is achieved through the employment of a high sensitive heated diode sensor (semi-conductive sensor) combined with a sophisticated microprocessor-controlled circuit.
In addition to the supreme performance and functional advantages, it offers a unique designed shape to provide greater ease of use and comfort.
Technical Features
Upgraded Heated Diode Sensor
It adopts upgraded heated diode sensor. Compared to traditional corona sensor, it is more sensitive and less susceptible to false positives from other gases.
It will respond to all halogenated gases. This includes, but is not limited to:
CFCs e.g.R11, R12, R500, R503 etc.
HFCs e.g. R125, R134a, R404a,R410a etc.
HCFCs e.g. R22,R123, R124,R502 etc.
HFOs e.g. R1234yf etc.

Purchased the LD-100 model that runs on three AA batteries. I work on central heating and cooling systems.I have found three leaks so far with this detector and all the leaks were found and pinpointed within five minutes of searching. I like that it runs on standard batteries because if the power runs out I can simply replace the batteries and resume searching instead of having return at another time after recharging the tester. Time will tell if it continues to find leaks. If I can get two years out of it I will be happy.

This thing does not detect R-410a even if the refrigerant is leaking right into this thing. Junk

I just wish the volume would be adjustable. The volume is a bit on the generous side.

This thing eats batteries. It uses up the battery power warming up (too long). By the time it's ready to use the new batteries get weak. It does detect leaks though.

The first one I got did not work The spring that makes the connection with the battery was crooked. So, I exchanged it for a new one. The second one would not work either. There should be some type of quality control before sending items into the market. This made me think about the reliability of this tool's readings. If there is no basic QC, what other things they do not check for quality? I did not try a third time.

In fairness I have only used this 2x (I just received it 1 week ago).. I used it alongside a much more expensive cps meter. It sensed exactly the same and in one case better than my cps... it was very simple to set up and understand .. if it remains this reliable it would be a great value for the money...

I have an extremely slow R134A leak on one of my vehicles (probably loses about 4oz year) This unit was easy to use and the flexible neck stays positioned well when bent into shape. But even on the lower sensitivity it would still false trigger on areas. It would trigger, id' power offon to re-calibrate and retest same area to then get no response. I think for a larger leak this unit would be OK. I returned for a different model.
