I like the tone produced. EMGs have never disappointed me with a bad or stupid tone.I did have to….ever so slightly….trim a sharp, bottom edge to get them in. These, and all my other EMGs aren’t perfectly vertical. They’re the teeny, tiniest bit broader on the bottoms than the tops. This means some shaving is necessary if you want to fit them, on some instruments…mostly….all of mine.I use wet/dry sandpaper, like 1000 grit or something to just take the sharp edge from the mold off.I’ve decided to quit monkey farting around with active pickups and on-board pre-amps and anything that requires batteries. The sound is indeed more versatile but not as good as my old, completely passive workhorses. I mean….I’ve had substantial offers for my old BB1000 (with passive EMGs) and folks have even wanted to borrow it for recording sessions. No one wants to borrow my active Jackson or Fender….ever.

..just kidding. I have similar on another bass, but this, when installed into a '78 Fender Jazz, were too high, non-adjustable, and I wasn't going to route out the body to make them fit.The installation is a breeze, though.. I don't think I did any soldering.

Updated: customer support contacted me with an offer to replace a cable that has had quality issues lately. The replacement worked immediately and sounds great. Unfortunately, I had to contact them about a problem they seemed to know about so I'm leaving it 4 stars.Original: Installed following the instruction diligently. No sound. Eventually pulled it all out and took detailed pictures of it all connected in case I made a mistake. Posted a note via their website asking for some advice on what I could change. Haven't heard back.

I got these to replace passive Bartolini pickups which replaced factory stock fenders. They sound great I've had this bass for 14 years and has been out on several tours and almost everything inside has been replaced at one point. It will take some wood work if you are converting from passive. I did have a little trouble wiring it but hit the google and found most of what I needed( got to trick the battery bus in to see a switch). Now I have this wired correctly and the bass sounds as good as my Music man.

These active pickups deliver a wonderful range of tones from classic to modern and come with a set of volume, volume and tone controls that feature solderless connections. The combination of separate volume controls and a passive tone control is what makes it possible to dial in the tone you want quickly. Knobs not included.

This has given new life to my Squire vintage jazz bass. I could not slap with the stock pickups and bridge. After this upgrade, slapping is a breeze and the overall tone is awesome. Very pleased
