I think adding a battery grip to the Canon EOS R8 makes a lot of sense both for vertical shooting and effectively doubling the battery life. If you have large hands, the extra size and heft with the battery grip in place is a positive. I use two genuine Canon batteries in my grip. The grip is attached by removing the battery cover from the Canon R8 (it stores in the grip) and then attaching the grip with the locking wheel at the rear of the grip. Batteries are inserted at the rear of the grip and locked into place. There is an included control cable that plugs into the front of the grip (right side looking at the front of the camera & grip) and then into the remote control â…›" plug under cover of the same camera. If you have a problem with the camera recognizing the presence of two batteries try insert one, and after that one is recognizing by the camera, inserting the second. There is a vertical shooting button on the front of the grip. The Hersmay grip does not have all the versatility or convenience of the Canon grip but it is functional for a fraction of the price of the Canon version. You do have to remove the battery grip to access your memory card. You can ameliorate this inconvenience somewhat by downloading your images wirelessly or by using higher capacity memory cards. Recommended with those caveats.

Not the best battery grip I've owned, it has a switch for turning it off and on, I wish it had an auto off feature as I was going to take pictures at christmas but had left the switch on and the batteries had drained. Luckily I was able to pull the grip off and put an extra battery in the camera itself. Still, not a bad deal.

It's kinda weird, if you put in two non Canon batteries, my camera (R8) asks are these genuine Canon batteries, whether you say yes or no it won't let you get the camera to function. If you stick the original Canon battery and a non Canon in the unit, it seems to work! It's a bit temperamental. It hasn't failed while out on a number of camera shoots and the extra hand grip space is great.
