These are my favorite banjo strings. The warm sound that these produce is second to none. Keep in mind, I primarily play old timey music on an open back banjo - not blue grass. These give me that perfect mellow sound. When tuned down, they give that distinct dissonant sound that can really turn heads. Few strings that I have used even come close to comparing to these. These are my go to for sure and I always have at least one spare set on hand.

These strings do not hurt my fingers like other guitar strings and the sound is wonderful. They hold tune well and tune true once stretched..

I’m just starting to learn clawhammer so this isn’t a “pro” opinion, but these seem like fine strings and you can’t beat the price. I’ve been practicing and I can’t find any fault with the strings, just my fingers. They give the tone I would expect from clawhammer strings. The first and 5th strings are very fine and I accidentally snapped the 1st string while tuning up, but that’s my mistake. Fortunately the 5th string is the same gauge and is the same length so I just swapped them and everything turned out okay.

I'm using it for my guitar practice. Metronome works quite well as does the tuner, which is very accurate. Typical metronome sound. Changing tempo is easy, but getting the downbeat where you want it takes a little practice. I'm still figuring that out.

After trying as countless varieties as the next guy, these have become my default go to strings -- decent price, sound solid, not too heavy/not too flimsy, and they're especially resistant to breaking in my experience. Amazon reports I've ordered them 18 times from them alone.

I discovered Ernie Ball lightweight strings when I played coffee houses some 45 years ago. They had that extra "twangy" sound I was looking for folk music and were easy on the fingers. The .009 and .010 strings are a little prone to breaking, so DON'T OVERTIGHTEN THEM! If you are a little bit careful and use an electronic tuner, you shouldn't have any more problems than you would with any other strings. Time proven strings that perform really well and don't cost an arm and a leg.

These medium gauge strings are just about right for playing clawhammer/frailing style. I don't necessarily know that Ernie Ball strings are any better quality than any other brand. My main point in this review is that the gauge is right for frailing (at least for the way I frail - your mileage may vary). I tried light gauge strings and didn't like them... the sound was a bit hollow and they were too bendy and stretchy. I kept having the problem of accidentally pulling the 1st string off the side of the fretboard when playing up the neck. And the light gauge strings were so easy to bend that they would sort of mash together under my fingers when making certain chords, which would result in slight intonation problems. These medium gauge strings are just little bit stiffer and offer a little more resistance, and thus prevent both of those problems. And the sound of the highs (especially on the 1st string) is clearer and has more sustain.
