I use this EVERY TIME I seed start.It’s fluffy and is easy to work with. It does not mold like other seed starting soil.One bag normally will work for my 24-48 seed cells.Roots grow well for me in this soil which is huge!

As an avid gardener I have learned that the most ideal and possibly the best garden soil has to have the right mixture of chemical components, physical components and biological matter to achieve optimum results.1. Chemically soil must contain adequate amounts of essential nutrient contents, (such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), be of suitable acid-alkaline reaction (pH levels), and free of substances toxic to plant growth, (such as herbicides).2. Physically soil should allow water to drain through and air to gain ready admittance, but not so loose that it does not retain enough moisture and nutrients for the plants’ needs, (in other words moist well drained soil).3. Biologically soil should contain an abundance of favorable organic matter (humus, which is what remains after extensive decomposition of organic matter), and other helpful soil organisms (such as earthworms) and a minimum of harmful ones, (such as nematodes).When the above three conditions are met, the gardener now has rich organic soil to successfully grow and harvest a variety of crops. Espoma Organic Seed Starter has all the above components; it is dark, rich with organic matter, moist, soft and light.I was able to successfully grow and reap a bountiful harvest of tomatoes, hot peppers (serrano and habanero), lettuce, broccoli, cucumbers, carrots and a wide variety of herbs and flowering plants.This is the best organic potting mix I've used and it gave optimum results. I am a certified Master Gardener in Texas. Here we have 2 growing seasons, spring and fall. I use this soil twice a year to start my vegetable and flower seeds. I just started another 200+ veggies and they started to sprout in 4 days!!!! Of course, I use grow lights and seed starting trays, but any good gardener will tell you that the soil is the MOST important thing in your garden. This soil is almost a guarantee for germination!

I started a multitude of flower seeds indoors 3 days ago, some in this mix as well as some in Burpee seed starting mix. Many of the seeds planted in this mix have already started to germinate including cosmos, echinacea, impatiens, and scabiosa! Incredible considering some of them can take 2-3 weeks. Many of the seeds were from last year and were stored on a shelf in my family room, and they are still germinating wonderfully. Maybe that speaks more to the quality of the seeds, but wow I'm pleased. Meanwhile none of the seeds in the burpee mix have germinated yet - not a bad thing, but such a difference. Assuming the seedlings thrive, this mix will be well worth the money.

My kale and chard at 4wks. This seeding starting mix is amazing! Soil was nice and moist, I didn't even need to water the soil before planting my seeds. The bag has a zip lock so it's easy store. First time gardener btw! So happy with my purchase!

The seller was great but the product itself is not what I was hoping for. Good ingredients/composition but very water repellant, difficult to work with and I did not enjoy the overly large chunks of wood/debris I had to sift out. I wouldn’t purchase again.
