Must have item for around the house/ shop. Re-seal paint cans, drive plastic stakes without damage, knock wooden pieces together, etc. When a steel hammer is too hard /heavy for the job, this is the right tool. Plenty of drive without damage. Plastic /rubber option is perfect and can get into smaller spaces than standard rubber mallet. Doesn't take up too much room in a tool box.

Everyone should have one of these in their BASIC toolbox for the home. I'm talking top 20 tool. Yes it can be used for pretty specific application by tradesmen, but it has wide application for the homeowner who doesn't want to harm hard surfaces. For a homeowner this is a BIFL tool. It will literally last your entire life, or for 3 days until your toddler finds it and unknowingly puts it in the garbage can. But at this price, that's an easy enough fix.

I have always been fond of Estwing hammers and I needed a soft faced hammer so when I saw this one it was a no brainer! Very easy to use with chisels and the grip fits my big hands well. I expect it to last for years to come, it looks very durable!

I've owned Estwing tools for a few decades. They are always perfect quality - perfectly balanced and indestructible. This multipurpose hammer is no exception, specializing in duties and functions that no other type of hammer is appropriate for. Rubber mallets are too soft. Regular hammers are too hard. This is the solution.

I use this mallet with wood chisels for work on smaller items where a large wooden mallet obscures my view or is otherwise difficult to use. This one is just the right size, shape, and weight for that purpose, and is well balanced.

I got the dfh24 with the two "non-marring" rubber heads. A straight on strike seems to avoid marring the wood, but a glancing blow will definitely leave a mark as shown in the picture. The quality is excellent, handle is comfortable, if marring isn't an issue for you (such as for striking metal or rough lumber) then it's a good choice for an American made tool. I'm retuning to find a 24 oz that has the plastic heads of the dfh12 as I need this for cabinetry and furniture making.

I bought this to replace a lighter Estwing rubber mallet that finally bit the dust. I was disappointed when I first got it because it felt too heavy to be useful for what I needed (I mostly build furniture and do light remodeling). After wrapping the handle with hockey stick tape to give it a better grip, I took it with me to do a remodeling job that involved a lot of tearing out. I discovered that this mallet works great with a flat bar. I never liked the clanging of a hammer against the flat bar. This mallet has enough heft to bury the flat bar in whatever I'm needing to pry out, but it's quiet enough that I was able to work when other people were still in bed. This mallet turned out to be a good addition to my arsenal.

This is a piece of art.Every design line is a stroke of genius. I keep looking at it and have decided not to use it.Having accumulated 100's of tools over the years I appreciate German, Taiwanese, American etc quality. Estwing keep up the good work but your prices here in Australia are way too high
