The item is extremely brittle. It came in a box with other items that are admittedly larger like a butane tank and flex shaft but I notice that its already falling apart when opening it.

After a bit of research I was excited to use this as it'll be helpful with helping heat thicker pieces using only butane torches(due to how well it reflects heat). I had been using a soldering board that was a heatsync(which is also beneficial when working with small and dainty pieces, becauseit prevents overheating accidentally). Another great thing about these charcoal blocks is you can use a bit and put a tiny divet into it to melt almost perfect silver ball embellishments). I was looking forward to having this and planned on getting more if it turned out alright. Honestly, all the pictures and reviews of the broken ones is the only reason I was hesitant to order multiple. Great product and planned to wrap in binding wire but came broken in 4 pieces. 2 large and 2 small corners. Surely you can improve packaging as this is apparently a long going issue. Unless you just don't care enough.. is it possible to get a replacement? These pictures are right after delivery. Still in wrapping in one picture. Please contact me if this is possible. I hope you can get this small issue handled as this block is great and i love many other products ive bought from you. Thanks!

Charcoal blocks break easily, so I wasn't surprised when mine arrived broken in half. I wrapped wire around it to hold it together tightly, which I would have done even had it been in one piece, but the company ought to package their charcoal so it isn't damaged in shipping. In spite of the break, it works just fine.

I have ordered this block a number of times over the years. This version is the hard one which does not need to be wire wrapped in order to help keep it together but you can wrap it if you want. This block is harder to carve into shapes but is more durable for casting as well as soldering. Harder charcoal blocks are not as messy as the soft blocks.

This charcoal block will take the heat from your torch to keep your piece properly warmed while you're soldering. It works exactly as intended. It differs from BBQ charcoal in being very hard and compressed. However, it is frangible and deformable (for example: you can create divots into which you can melt spherical granules). My block came intact and in ample packaging. I'm happy with this charcoal soldering block and prefer it over my magnesia soldering block because the charcoal retains the heat better.

Does it's thing well. Easy to mix up with black sanding blocks, but maybe that was just me.
