I was unaware of E-Z Lok threaded inserts until after I'd had trouble with the name brand everyone knows so I searched online and found E-Z. Not wanting to end up with the same issues I'd had with the other brand I reached out to E-Z's customer service, explained my situation, and received a reply by the next morning. In the reply were recommendations for which product to use (with part #'s) depending on my situation, so I made my choice and ordered this kit.1) The insert tool is FAR superior to the other brands and it seems to make a real difference2) The inserts themselves appear to be tighter wound, so they started in the freshly tapped hole much easier than the other brandThe threaded inserts are in my engine and work perfectly!Any time I need a threaded insert in the future I'll be buying E-Z's, no questions asked, and so should you.

Used this to repair my 1985 Ford Tractor stripped engine mounting bolts. I repaired six stripped bolt holes and the cutter still cuts well.

The second tool from E-Z Lok I've purchased, definitely won't be the last either. Tool works super well, I do wish it came with the drill bit though.

This is for the 6-32 x 0.138" kit.I had to repair threads in three 6-32 holes. This kit made it fairly easy. First, drill out the bad threads with a #25 drill bit, then retapped the hole with the provided tap (I used Anchorlube for the cutting fluid). I washed out the hole with an electronics cleaning spray and blew the hole dry with a small blower. Here is where I ran into a slight problem. The instructions say to reposition the stop collar so the drive tang is centered in the slot on the end of the drive tool. The problem was the set screw was a tiny hex drive one and I had no idea if it was metric or imperial nor what size. I have plenty of Allen keys, including a T-handle set but none of them fit so I went on without adjusting the collar and had no problems installing the inserts. I later found a bit in my big I-Fixit kit; it's a 1.5mm. It would have been nice if the instructions had specified the size hex key needed for the set screw. While just the insert should have held up well enough, being a paranoid flatulent geriatric, I put a drop of red Lock-Tite in the hole before screwing in each insert, then carefully cleaned out the excess with some finely twisted tissue paper. Breaking off the tang was easy. I just rotated the tool 90° and gave it a firm love tap with a percussive persuader (aka large hammer). After allowing some time for the thread locker to cure, I reinstalled the screws and the inserts held just fine.I did run into a problem with one insert. The tang in the insert didn't break off cleanly and I had to chase the threads with a 6-32 tap to clean out that tiny bit that didn't break off. I suspect this was a fluke but, if it ever happens again, it's easy enough to fix.The packaging needs to be rethought. I manged to spill a couple of the inserts while figuring out how to get everything out of the packaging (I managed to find them). Besides being awkward, the packaging was too large for storing the tool, tap, and remaining inserts I found a small box to store them in.If I ever need to repair any threads again, I will stay with E-Z Lock. Their kits are reasonably priced and get the job done.

So far it's working the only thing I wish they would send a drill bit for the right size with it

The tool broke on the first helicoil. I had to cut a slit in a small flathead screwdriver to finish the job. I will update the review when I get the replacement.

Great product if looking to fix a thread problem as stated above BUT it's because it makes a stronger material to grip into when dealing with cast aluminum. Wish the package would have been able to send with the tag punch and the cost for this tool is a bit hight for no more than what it is really BUT when you need a quick fix this is perfect and worth every penny

The tap worked very well. Follow instructions and it will fix your stripped hole issue in aluminum. Didn't think the made such small thread repair kits. Saved my 20 plus year old outboard from.the scrap heap.

After 2-3 years of people saying it’s the wrong tap spec, the problem still persists. I failed to confirm the TPI before tapping the hole (I know….duh), now my vintage carburetor is ruined…

Taps aren't as durable as named brands, will do 2 or 3 rethreads before the edges go dull.
