Came across a yoke on a GM 14 bolt axle that the factory bolt must have broke in, and someone drilled it out and installed a long 1/4 bolt and nut. Yeah, not my style. Drilled it and tapped it with the thread repair kit (5/16-24). I’ve used a ton of these style kits, and they always work well, if you know what your doing. Consider a lisle thread tap socket set if you don’t already have one in your toolbox, just makes life easier, which I’m all for. Be smart about how you apply pressure to the drill bit and tap, like anything else. You do not want to break either in the hole.

Worked fine, but fyi, only the inserts are made in UK. The drill bit and tools are made in China.

Put a tube of locktite in the kit to lock the Helicoil in place, cause if you have to remove bolt later on for some reason the Helicoil won't come when the bolt is removed.

Couple of the inserts didn't feel great when I screwed the bolt in, I had already cleaned the bolts with a die so I knew they were in good shape. No worries though, bolts are holding good.
