I have quite a bit of experience with firearms. I had loaned my boresight tool out to a friend and was in need of one. I purchased this one to use one time figuring it would get me by my new I wasn't buying an engineering Marvel and just figured it would get me close enough. I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did he get me on paper at first shot but I was within one MOA at 50 yards with a .17hmr rifle and with a 9 mm pistol it put me within two inches at 20 yards. All shots off rests. Here's my secret and it's not much of a secret: assuming that at this price point it was a fairly low-tech piece of hardware I stretched out my parameters to give it the best chance I could. I performed this at night with my firearm inside the shop shining out through a door, out to a white ceramic seagull on top of a post that is about 30 yards away and took my time. Obviously, test performed closer with the 9 mil. Picture attached is Ruger American 17 HMR @ 50 yards - first two shots.

Pros: Pretty close to universal, especially if you're willing to tinker with things a bit - there's different size plastic plug things that screw in the back to work with different calibers, and if you don't mind making something that fits right (maybe from a bore brush?) or using a little plumber's tape or something to get a good fit, you can probably make it work with anything less than a .50. Dot is nice and bright, whole thing feels pretty solid and well made, comes in a nice box with batteries that worked and all the tools you need (allen wrench, screwdriver) and a little sight adjustment target table thing.Make sure you screw the back end thing in enough to push it up onto the post, which spreads out the plastic. Otherwise you'll have a bit of a wobble in most firearms. Tried it with a .22, .223/5.56, two different 9mms, and a .30-06. Pictures above show it in a Springfield Hellcat and a S&W M&P Shield 2.0... the latter with the factory Crimson Trace laser also on. As you can see, the two dots are pretty darn close to each other, which is good. You do need to jam the thing in there as best you can, though, or maybe wrap the end in something to get a tighter fit on some guns. A dedicated single-caliber bore sight won't have that wobble... but then if you're like me you'd need a half dozen different bore sights. So long as you remember that these things are not for precision adjustments, just for getting it on the paper before you fine tune your scope, you're good. My guns spend far too much time just sitting in the safe, so it's an easy way to do a quick check and see if anything's been knocked out of line before I go shooting.

I was a little apprehensive about this but in the end it worked absolutely perfectly.I used it to set up a new Springfield M1A with a scope. Before taking it to the range I used it indoors to dial in both the scope and iron sights. At the range the windage of the scope was only off by .5MOA at 100 yards - and that could just be me. But it saved me a ton of ammo sighting that in.I also used it to sight in a Benelli 12GA shotgun with equal results.Only negative I can give is the installation and removal of the batteries is a bit odd. But that's about it.

I have used multiple laser bore sighters throughout my life and this is by far the worst one I have ever tried to use. The cartridge based bore sighters I have used were better than this in every way, and that's saying something.I put on the proper adapter according to the specs in the instructions and it literally wouldn't even go into the bore of my rifle. I follow the instructions to a T the first time. The proper adapter torqued to the proper "spec" (manual just says tighten the adapter until it flares out, which I did). It did not fit into the bore of my rifle. Not even close. So from there I adjusted it. I couldn't get it into the bore of my rifle even with backing off the adapter screw, which lessened the flare of the adapter. The device I have doesn't even match the instructions. The pieces they show in the manual are not what I received and therefore do not work as described. It was a struggle to even get the batteries in correctly and make this thing work at all, based on the instructions. The instructions were completely wrong in that in nearly every regard and I had to resort to just doing what I thought was best. Then I was able to make it work, sort of; because while I got the laser to function, I could not get the device to fit inside of the bore of my rifle ever. When I did get it to work (aka got the laser to turn on, because again, NO WAY is this fitting into a .223/5.56 bore), the laser I saw was this huge and terrible blob (no, it is not my eyesight). There's no way this would be able to ACCURATELY sight in a rifle for a 50/200 zero, even if you were using a 10yd target. The laser for POI is just too huge and grossly inaccurate at best. At worst it's a total liability.I couldn't be less satisfied with this. It was absolutely terrible in everyway. Even if you go it to work, and were willing TO SHOVE this Chinesium down your muzzle; the accuracy would be suspect at best due to the blob of a laser it puts out.YMMV but this is absolute trash. Potentially could get the job done. I recommendEZshoot Bore Sight Kit Bright Green or Red Dot BoreSighter with Bimg Button Switch for .17 to 12GA Caliber with better laser and better batteries. I used this the first time and could see the laser, but unfortunately the second time, it stopped working, and looks like it's done. I tried the other set of batteries but wouldn't come on. While a little less then the one mentioned above, I would've paid the extra few dollars to get the more reliable option if I could do it again.

solid bore sighter....great product. Did a great job at sighting in my rifle. With the bore sighter in your barrel, and the firearm firmly supported on a stand, bipod, etc, aim the laser at a target, then in small increments, rotate the laser by hand, you will see that it makes a small circle on the target. Find the center of that circle, then dial in your scope. Works perfect. Highly recommended item, and highly recommended procedure.

was off by 4" to right at 60 yards but certainly helped with the just added scope on the very old lever action Savage. Think it more than payed for itself on ammo savings already

its does its job bringing the target value closer to the crosshairs but fine tuning will still have to be done the old fashioned way
