Fasco A246 Specific Purpose Blowers, Rheem/Ruud 7062-3925, 70-24206-01

Bought this "Amazon Warehouse Deals." Item itself was 100% fine. The box was damaged, damage patched with tape and label, OK by me. I am not a HVAC pro, so if you use what I'm writing here it's at your own risk. That said, in no particular order here are my notes: (1) The 'often ordered with this item' may show a caulk, 3M Ultrapro 08672. If you don't have it, and you are installing one of these, buy it. It is a silicone caulk filled with silica and carbon black, which make it suitable for this relatively high-temperature application. Surprise surprise -- when cured it looks and feels very very similar to the factory caulk you will find on the exhaust piping inside your appliance. Just sayin'. You must properly caulk the fan outlet so that the carbon monoxide fumes from the appliance burners (furnace, water heater) are exhausted properly thru the duct. If you do not, you risk carbon monoxide being mixed into your interior household air. Do NOT screw around with that. One way to do the caulking is described (far) below in this set of notes. (2) Wipe loose material off the mounting surface. You will likely notice a gasket or raised area on the mounting surface that mates with a foamy ring on the blower. Gently wipe it off (more like dust it off) and don't scrape that gasket off the mounting surface. The size of the opening is critical, as is having a flat area about 3/16" to 1/4" wide around the perimeter, that's where the foam on the fan casing mates up with the gasket. By the way although it looks like neoprene gasket material, it is not. Neoprene gasket material burns like a candle if you set a flame to it, this stuff does not (3) A nutdriver the right size (go check, mine was 3/8") with magnetic insert and long shaft is great for this R&R; you also might want the cheapie nitrile exam gloves - well, one anyway - more on that below, too (4) spray a little household cooking spray on a cloth or paper towel and use that to help wipe off the old gasket material from the appliances air duct. Why? You DON'T want any accidental voids or gas paths in the installation. Period. Get it ALL off. What will happen - when you pull the old blower some of the gasket material will be left behind. Pull it off with your fingers. You will feel a film of the stuff remains. Wipe over it with the towel you sprayed with cooking spray. The film will start to soften and most likely you'll be able to rub it with your fingers and it will peel off (kind of like a sunburn heh heh) (5) use your cell phone or other camera to take a picture of the fan before you remove it; refer to that picture to see how to route the wires properly when you are installing the new one. If the lighting is not adequate to get a usable cell phone picture, you probably need more light to do this job right (6) In (1) I mentioned the 3M caulk. After removing the old blower, and cleaning the duct you pulled the blower off of, wipe it dry. Put that nitrile exam glove on, then using your gloved hand smear the silicone caulk onto the duct inlet. Be sure to get it around the entire duct. It will be tough to get it on the backside, but be sure you do. Build up a layer about 2 MM thick, all the way around the circumference of the outside of that duct inlet. The wipe out the blower outlet so it's clean and dry; install the blower onto the duct. As you push it on, the caulk will bead up around the outlet. You want that. It seals the duct. Also be sure to put caulk on the screw that secures the blower outlet to the duct inlet, so that gas does not leak out past it.

Hvac company wanted $1200 to install this. It took me 15 minutes with a few basic tools. They tried to tell me I should buy a rheem. This is the exact same model as a rheem. Dont waste your money on the rheem brand.

Exact, perfect fit. Swapped out in about 15 minutes. Know I saved a bundle on labor & probably part price too compared to local heating contractor. If you can do minor repairs, you can do this simple install. Appreciated other reviews on installation which is really straight forward.

Did not work properly, did not remove enough air and the furnace shuts down. Unfortunately I could not return it as I was away when it was installed and then removed and I did not return until after the return window closed.
