I bought 3 of these. We have tornadoes where I live so I got one for each of my cats in case we need to take shelter. These are designed in a way that they nest together when not assembled. I set one of them up without the door on and then stacked it inside the other I assembled ones so they can sleep inside of it or on top of it. This way they are all in the same place and I can put them together quickly if I need to. They are a really generous size, so my cats will be comfortable and not cramped if they have to be locked up for a while.I’m confident these carriers would be fine for taking the cats to the vets or basic traveling also.

While shopping around, I noticed one thing- there were sizes, and a lot of carriers have only one photo for ALL sizes. There's a smaller version of this one, that I almost bought on accident til I looked through the reviews- so I'm +1 in order to keep the info constantly in the review comments.I have a moose of a 19lb cat, and a wee slip of a 7lb cat. I wouldn't put my 7lb in the small version of this carrier. The Atlas 20 is the size you want for any sized housecat older than 6 months. The 10 is more like something you'd use for a chinchilla or rabbit.Aside from that, it seems just as sturdy and durable as my old carrier. The door isn't your standard "locked into the carrier" swinging metal door with a spring loaded latch on it. The door is held on by 4 rotating pins that lock in to the top and bottom of the carrier. The 4 rotating pins swing to reveal slots in them. You turn the pins to "open slots", slide the door pegs in, and twist the pins to "closed" and your door is locked. You can open all 4 of the pins and remove the door completely, or you can just open 2 of them and the door will swivel like any other carrier door.I don't see this feature as any less secure than your average cat carrier. I don't anticipate it to be a problem for my cats and I have two ex-ferals who would do just about anything to get out/away from a cat carrier and a trip in a car.The great thing about having a door that comes completely off that easily is that if you have a pet that enjoys being in it's carrier, you can pull the door off in 2 seconds and just leave it that way without having to worry about the hassle of disassembling/reassembling the crate just to move the door out of the way.

I thought the instructions were a little sketchy and I also didn't have the strength to attach handle. Otherwise fairly simple to assemble.

I was skeptical at first because I have a 20 pound cat but this carrier is very sturdy . It was very easy to put together . well made and worked great for my 20 pound cat . I also use it for our rabbit since he was chewing thru other carries . Its wide and tall enough for a big cat or small dog . This arrived quickly and was packaged very well too .

Latches on door eventually fall off and get lost, making the carrier useless

This takes apart and puts together so easily. I got it for my cat who refused to be pulled out of the carrier at the vet. I can snap it apart and take him out quickly. The door has stoppers on all four corners so there is no need to wrestle the carrier to attach the door.
