The bit that this replaced was also 1/2 shank, but the bit and bearing were also 1/2 inch. This one is 3/4 inch bit/bearing and just seems to cut smoother and with less chatter. Perhaps the larger diameter cuts at a bit sharper angle, plus the added weight. I use it in a router table using a pattern to cut 1/2 inch thick oak material (very carefully, and careful to cut with the grain).

Dull blade which makes the bit very dangerous. Can drag your finger towards the blade. Just invest in something that'll keep you safe. It ripped my white oak to shreds.
